Fane Flaws has died. He was in Blerta, Spats and The Crocodiles as well as being a talented artist and a genuinely lovely bloke. RIP.

Edit: He also did this video for the Muttonbirds, which i just love.

I think it is also easy to forget how little comedy/political satire there was in those days..

Loved The Goonies, golden era of going to the movies as a kid in the 80's (Return of the Jedi, Back to the Future, Gremlins and Goonies)
He did some good movies, The Omen as well. Thats a decent creepy horror.

It might be time for a rewatch of Lethal Weapon.

Ladyhawke has always been a guilty pleasure of mine.

Wow, I always thought Stephen Spielberg directed the Goonies.

Nevertheless that’s a pretty solid body of work, as @Virgil says it was an absolutely Golden era and he was a huge part of that.

Speilberg was often Executive Producer, pretty much he either directed or was EP with alot of the better movies in the 80's.
They had his style, Gremlins was another.

    Yep, hence my confusion.

To add to your earlier point it was a brilliant era of movies, back when ideas were new and fresh. What do we have now ? Star Wars material of inconsistent quality, Neeson, Willis, Travolta and Cage cashing cheques for any old shit, Fast and Furious NINE ?!?! ( I’ve never seen any of these ) and Harrison Ford about to make a FIFTH Indiana Jones which I’m sure will be dire……..

I’m really, REALLY pinning a lot of hope on Dune being awesome.

I should cut and paste this for the GOM thread.

Paul Mariner: Former Ipswich and England striker dies aged 68

'Brave as well as skilful - Mariner one of the finest of his time'
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty

Paul Mariner was a striker of the highest class who mixed the old-fashioned virtues of physical presence and aerial power alongside a complete all-round game.

He will be remembered as one of Sir Bobby Robson's most astute acquisitions when he moved to Ipswich Town from Plymouth Argyle in 1976, going on to become a key figure in their greatest period.

Mariner played in the FA Cup final win against Arsenal in 1978 and also when Ipswich Town won the Uefa Cup in 1981, scoring in the first leg of a 5-4 aggregate win over AZ Alkmaar.

It was a regret that Ipswich Town did not win the title despite coming close during his time at the club but Mariner's consistency, goals, character and outgoing personality made him one of their true legends of a golden era in Suffolk under Robson.

Mariner's quality earned him England honours, the high point of his international career coming when he scored in the 3-1 win over France at the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

He mixed modern attributes, was brave as well as skilful and at his peak was one of the finest British centre-forwards of his time.

More recently he was always fun to listen to on ESPN FC with his tales coaching the Revs with Steve Nicol.

I've got all the Wrestlemanias from the 80's and 90's. Might need to watch #2 again where he fought Don Muraco - that was a pretty good match from what I remember

I saw him wrestle, he was a Main Eventer for awhile. But this news, though obviously sad, surprises me, bc I forgot he was still alive. He kept a low profile. RIP Mr Wonderful.
