How exciting is Ratavae to watch? Feels like he could do anything when he's got the ball in hand.

We look pretty sloppy on attack - lots of handling errors. Pretty happy with our defence though, after the initial period of sustained possession by Southland in the first quarter of the game.

Really impressed with Chris Apoua on the tight head side , he’s had a great battle with Aidan Ross in fact for most of the scrums Ross has either folded in or gone straight to ground , Ross was a guy they were talking about being an All Black after super rugby ..Apoua who plays for Mid Northern was signed from Northland as a loan player because of the stags injuries..I am still scratching my head how or why the Taniwha did not sign him ..absolutely miffed ,but also shows the eye for talent of Dale McLeod .
Apoua scrumed well against Otago last week , made 17 tackles missed none .

This ref's positioning is terrible. Constantly in the way or unsighted.

Huge scrum and Trask bombs a try by being a hungus.

@antipodean Yeah that was an absolute lunchtime schoolyard rugby play in not passing that ball. Thankfully Wainui got the job done in the end.

Unrelated - but does anyone know how we ended up with Selby-Rickett signing for us?

Hasn't Nathan Harris' ranking fallen in NZ hookers?

@aucklandwarlord Money at the end of the day ..!,that’s all it came down to ..can tell this for nothing , his move did not go down well with the Stags especially after they supported him after his brush with the law which if it could gone the other way may have seen him doing jail time .its a dog thing to do , to walk away from an organisation who supported you in a decision that could have lasting consequences on your own life .

Agreed. That pretty much ran lead blocker NFL style in that try just then.

Comfortable in the end but made it harder than it should have been - set piece too sloppy. Defence looks great, the rest needs to be worked on.

I don't know whether Karpik took a head knock early, but in the second half he became a liability and we looked better when he went off.

I didn't mind the set piece and the defence looked ok, however our attack is very clunky.

Nikora Broughton and Onisi Ratave looked very good.

Happy to get out of Southland with a win and a bonus point.
