Nah I was 5 when it came out, I must've watched it when I was 7 or 8 - fucking AWESOME! compared to the shit kids movies in those days.
The only movies apart from Star Wars that I remember as going to as a kid are these ones, plus the Bud Spencer/Terrance Hill ones. NFI how dubbed Italian movies like those made it to Napier in the 70's

They were obviously big in HB as I used to watch them on video in the 80s.
Who finds a friend finds a treasure. Watch out we're mad. The Trinity movies. Etc.

The Spencer and Hill movies along with Cheech and Chong were pretty big in the early 80s

It’s pretty entertaining to watch again I’ll give you that.
….and would be absolutely unwatchable if Clint wasn’t the main man.

Absolutely loved the Trinity movies (pretty much anything with Bud Spencer and Terrance Hill) when I was a kid, it was a family favourite. One thing that amazed us when watching, never did we see baked beans like that until we moved from Auckland in 1977 to Canada.
As a family of 6, we flew into LA via Tahiti. my Dad brought a V8 panel wagon and after we did all the sites and theme parks, we drove from LA to Calgary stopping at all sorts of cool places. But I digress, where was I... ah yes, baked beans.
I still remember it vividly to this day... it was at a typical American roadside dinner between Portland and Seattle that I discovered that I really hate baked beans after seeing them on the menu and ordered them with crusty bread, Trinity style.
YUCK... and that hatred has lasted until this day. -

runs slow too.
Although I enjoyed it and agree with your score.
Exposition of a redneck broadening his horizons, with a slight twist in the tail of the tale . Nobody lives happily ever after Has Award Nomination written all over it .Particularly for Matt Damon and his MAGA cap

The Martian.
Was on again last night so turned it on before I went to bed. Next thing you know it's 1:30am and I've watched the whole thing. Absolutely love this film, appeals to my enjoyment of science.
Still think Rich Purnell gets the shaft given that he masterminded the whole rescue. Little credit given.
5 freeze dried turds out of 5 potatoes.

I enjoyed the film too. Like a stranded on a desert island story. But on Mars....

It's on my "can't not watch it if I stumble across it" list

another who loves it here, on a very short list of movies that made me go and read the book, normally just because so much of the plot is obviously ruined, but i just enjoyed it so much

Me too, other movies I always end up watching if they're on from recent times are Moneyball and The Big Short.

Ha, I got lured into Moneyball again just last week - I think what makes it (and the Martian) so like that, is that you can watch any 30min segment of either and enjoy it - you don't have to commit to the full viewing

both of those two, and Zero Dark 30

I'm yet to see Moneyball, must add to list!
Shawshank is another that I'll watch to the end when I'm channel surfing and stumble across it.

I actually haven't watched Zero Dark 30 in years but I'm sure if it was on I'd sit down and watch it.
