13 cases today, all in Auckland, hospitalisation, ICU and ventilator numbers have dropped.
250,000 Pfizer doses en route from Spain, should arrive in Auckland tomorrow morning, bigger deal in the works, hoping to announce shortly.

Cindy walking back from Hipkins comments about MIQ availability and the abandonment of the traffic light border scenario.
MIQ will stay as is and the comments about risk profiling applies to individual countries - the strategy has not changed.
Must have changed tack after reading responses on the Fern

I think the pathway to NZers being able to return more freely is still planning for fully vaccinated people being able to self-isolate rather than go into MIQ. The trial on this later this year is still planned to go ahead despite the latest Delta incursion, so that tells me the government is serious about that as the first stage of the plan.

I think the government will be closely watching what happens in the Northern Hemisphere as they move into autumn.
For all the triumphalism of some elements up north (media / politicians and no worse than our own) the graphs are trending remarkably similarly to last year.
7 day death rate in the UK for example is 15 times higher than it was for the same week last year. I do get that the UK is a lot more open but I wonder how much of their great summer is the vax rate and how much is seasonality.
NZ has to accept living with Covid and soon. In my circle I would say there are no more than 1 or 2 who want to stay locked down forever. There are more who are ready to open up now but the vast majority guardedly support the Govt's strategy but will start clamouring for borders to open once we get tp 70% double jabbed

so Cindy and Chris need to have a chat?

I am firmly on the Butcher's side here. It's absolutely ridiculous that they cannot offer a click and collect service, while thousands of people cram into supermarkets to get their meat.

Yeah mate, I ranted about this no-end during the 2020 lockdown. It's fucking disgraceful that all that wealth got transferred from small business to large supermarkets. If you are making a unilateral decision that small business aren't sensible enough / smart enough / whatever, to be able to operate in a safe manner on click and collect, then you damn sure better compensate them financially for that view,

Not correct. There are a few. Very few. And the problem is that they don't command the attention of the more prominent Ardern hacks

I'm struggling to see what the trial is meant to prove. If it's that we can reduce border restrictions and still keep zero community cases, then it's pretty much guaranteed to fail. And when it does fail, what's going to happen? Another lockdown?
You either have to commit to a gradual reopening or stay with the elimination strategy. There's no point "trialing" it then reverting back when it ends up going exactly as predicted.
