@nostrildamus didnโt take it that way but get your drift.

@l_n_p I think they're showing the capabilities of the PS5, nothing more and nothing less.
Gaming is a very loose, very broad term. What appeals to one group will possibly be the antithesis of another's, still I remain that they'd put immense effort into one aspect and none into the gameplay. The most successful titles appear to focus more on gameplay mechanics.
I haven't played the game and racing games aren't my thing, but I totally agree with you.
Good graphics are not hard given current technology, good gameplay design is always far harder to achieve in general. Successful designers are typically the ones who progress upwards to Producer and Director because they sit on a cusp of creativity-technology-immersion-(plot/narrative)
What the best games create through design is player immersion - when gameplay doesn't get the balance between realism and fun right, you lose player immersion. When you have rain but no reasonable handling impact, you lose player immersion and ... lose interest.

@tim looks like the development team put all their efforts in the graphics (which are impressive) because the physics are laughable.
I've got a hairline fracture in my spine, and a scar in the shape of New Zealand on my leg - which testify that that is NOT how motorbikes and kerbs interact.
Eek, these sorts of comments also put my mid life crisis Harley on hold. I used to fall off enough in my 20s.
As for the game, if it had realistic physics would be a shit game.
I keep thinking of an electric bike as my commuter option, and then remember when I got back on a farm bike in my late 20s, having not ridden for a decade or so, and nearly went arse up.
What was it about teenage invincibility that made me think motorbikes were anything but a road to permanent physical damage?

Yeah - I was going to go back, edit, and say pretty much that. Games are games... the whole point is enjoyment, suspension of belief. Realism is good for some aspects, not so good for others.
Still... I've been working my way through all the old-school classic nerd-games, and just recently finished off GTA 3, and GTA Vice City. Riding a bike in that, going seamlessly from road to sidewalk to grass back to road... still makes my testes crawl up inside to hide in the darkest pit of my guts.
I actually played through GTA3, Vice city and 95% of san andreas on my phone a couple of years ago, they were like $9 each and worked surprisingly well, san andreas crashed very close to the end

saw they announced a remake of Star Wars: knights of the old republic
didn;t play the original but it might be enough for me to buy a PS5, always hear about how good a story/game it is
I did and really enjoyed it. I also prefer storylines where you can be "evil" instead of being forced down a narrow storyline. Shows depth by the creators.
If they did nothing else than rework the graphics I'd still be pretty happy.
so, just saw theyre releasing the original KOTOR on switch...will be gettin that!

Holy shit that sounds awesome !!!! Absolutely loved all those games on the PS2 back in the day. The crazy storylineโs, zany characters and attention to detail from their respective eras was absolutely awe inspiring ( even if the graphics look blocky and shitty by todays standards ).
How do I play them on my phone ?

@kiwiwomble said in Gaming/VR:
@mn5 just on screen touch controls, not perfect but managed to finish the games which I wasnโt able to do with KOTOR on my phone
So many late might memories of beers and GTA ! Those games were absolute genius.
Of course games like Far Cry took the GTA blueprint and took things to a whole other level but its hard to go past the classics.

@kiwiwomble said in Gaming/VR:
@mn5 agreed, in hindsight its a testament to them i was able to all but finish san andreas on something like my phone, its like a 50 odd hour game so the three of them must be around 100 hours
From memory GTA3 was the real game changer in terms of gameplay and your character was so cool despite not speaking a word. The next two were just bigger and better and stole from Miami Vice/Scarface and Boys in the Hood/Menace II Society respectively.
Shit there were some clever buggers who came up with those ideas.
I mentioned Fary Cry before, my boy got number 5 for Xmas, not sure if his mother knew it contained cult members being burnt alive and various other gory shit but she gave the green light and he was happy haha.
-
@mn5 Indeed. GTA and GTA 2 had a top down view, GTA 3 (New York?) went 3D and then GTA 3 Vice City was ... perfect.
Very hard to make that 2D to 3D transition, most games screwed it up by over-focussing on the graphical opportunities but they really kept the purity of the original anarchic gameplay in the (huge) move from GTA 2 to GTA 3
Rockstar games started in the UK, made it big time ... Sam and Dan Houser

Part of the fun in those games was hopping in a car and going for a drive and listening to the hilarious talkback radio or the soundtracks ( which were incredible, so many great tunes )
-
@mn5 I always assumed the talkback radio and ads were was satirical until I spent a lot of time in LA. Now ... semi-satirical only
Rockstar and Valve were (maybe still are??) the only two "studios" I know that release games "ready when they're ready" i.e. almost perfect, and it shows.

Yeah Lazlo and his talkback and Tommy nightmare Smith who I only found out recently was voiced by none other than Axl Rose !
