Where are we:

Wednesday: Didn't do shit. Should have jogged or something but day got away from me.

Thursday: Shoulders. Always a pleasure.

Friday: Felt like a run so did a few kms and then did 4x 10 pull-ups, 10 dips, 400m run. Did the job.

Saturday: Worked then saw what looked like a drugged team from Southern NZ get beaten by the Qld special school.

Sunday: Same as Friday, but did 6km first. Farked me up well and true that did.

Today: Not much time. Hammered chest-bicep supersets. Not bad at all.

Last week: Typical week at the moment. Starts well then goes to poo and recovers somewhat on Friday.

This week looks a bit more promising so far and should stay that way:

Sunday: 6km run followed by 3 x 400 x 10 pullups and 15 dips. That seriously farks you up. Followed that up by running the line for sons rugby. My backs killed it again but the damn forwards are the bloody definition of hungus. Blinkered ball hogs. Cost the team at least 3 tries.

Monday: Chest and tris, yes this was good.

Tuesday: Back and biceps. Really went hard today and very happy. It's all about focus and less farking around.

Hopefully this keeps up.

Wednesday was a bit shart as usual. Could have gotten up for the gym but thought, no I'll run this evening. And of course I didn't...

Did however get to le gym today. Shoulders which is always a blast. Literally!!!

Might even fit in a jog tonight and then legs and arm tickle tomorrow. Hopefully.

Time, it doth fly. Seems like I've lost a couple of weeks here.

Training has been ok, but way too much time at the desk and not enough sleep.

Anyway, our story begins on Saturday:

6km run plus 3x pull-ups and dips - Really like this. Those few exercises there plus a "sprint" home fook me up royally.

Had a bucks after that so plenty of drinking, but I handled it surprisingly well. Had to get up early the next day for son's rugby. Was pissing with rain and ran the line as usual, sweating like a mofo in my rain jacket. Luckily I was feeling ok because the little buggers ran in 12 tries. Forwards still hungus, but backs scored at pretty much every touch.

Monday: Chest. Triceps - Good one this one. Had a bit more time and blasted away.

Tuesday: Back, biceps - Bit meh. A mate was there and time got away from me.

Wednesday: Hopefully a run tonight.

Interesting question! I knew a kid at college who was hitting weights at 13 - he was strong as fuck but did have some back issues. But I think that was from a rugby injury rather than getting hurt lifting. Maybe related? not sure.

Now forgive me (it's a crossfit site) but I found an interesting article on lifting young.

http://boxlifemagazine.com/kids-weightlifting-how-young-is-too-young/

Seems they think you can start pretty early - certainly by 12-13. That bit about kids not putting on bulk was pretty cool, instead they can get more out of their existing muscles. Another link said 7-8 years old as long it's well directed.

As long as the form is good and the weight is well suited to their ability it sounds all good - guess that will be dictated by the interest of the kid/s involved!

Definitely a question I'm interested in as the little MN5s get bigger. Both are definitely keen on being big and strong when they get older and the better half is gonna teach them a few gymnastics basics ( she came within a whisker of representing NZ at the Commonweath Games in 1990 )

I've read all the shit about weight training stunting their growth a bit so I am wary, oldest busted out a fairly decent chin up at the park the other day so thrilled about that !

Yeah the growth stunting thing worries me a bit. Also potential for some serious injury if they don't get it right. I think for the moment I'll stick with swimming and boxing. Maybe get them into calisthenics. My eldest was getting a gut, but smashed the training during the swimming season and now rugby and is now nearing a six-pack. It's cool that he sees how hard work pays off. I don't want them to have body issues but I think it's important that they're fit and healthy and are aware of what they can achieve if they put in the work.

Yeah always room for exercise of some description but I might not encourage the heavy benching, squatting and deadlifts til their late teens. I've also taught them both a few arm wrestling techniques that should enable them to beat kids their own age and possibly those older but more unco.

Time flies and I've been wasting my precious TSF time spouting shit on other topics.

I had pizza this week and felt terrible afterwards. That has become the norm for me when I eat Pizza or anything with bread. I wonder if my body has started to reject that kind of stuff. It wasn't takeaway either but home made with proper ingredients (lean mince etc.).

Anyway, the last 2 weeks have been the usual, i.e. Good, Good, Shit, Shit, Ok, Good, Ok. But I'm having most of next week off so I'm hoping for 7 straight Goods.

Today was shoulders. Was in a bit of a daze and forgot military presses. Am feeling sore so I guess the rest must have been ok.

So, as mentioned Im going to use the next week to train hard and eat and sleep well. I feel Im getting a bit soft about training and I have to stop that.

Any opportunity to train with a mate? That can make a heap of difference, especially around motivation and intensity - if you are feeling meh hopefully your bro can bring the fire etc!!

We've been getting into more shoulder work as part of Olympic lifting. Military press, push press and wide grip press are all gnarly - nothing like a mean shoulder pump!

Keep that focus going mate and you'll be cranking, it's a good sign you are getting immediate food regret lol, like you said it's a message your body is going wtf Rancid - I thought we were going clean and lean!

I usually see an old friend at the gym once or twice a week but we usually end up chatting like old ladies and I get less done.

I should be right. Just need more sleep and less stress. The concerning thing is that before Id hit the gym no matter what the circumstances or the time. Now I'm a bit more...nja I'll give it a miss and watch crap on TV.

Well that stops now! Hopefully...

The food thing is a bit weird. I'm having trouble enjoying anything at the moment. I've been trying to move away from the chicken plus rice/kumera but I find I just get bloated, which is a feeling I absolutely hate. Maybe I have to ramp up the running again to get so hungry that anything's good.

Remember that exercise is one of the best stress killers - if I'm wound from work I have to workout these days so I don't go postal. Works a treat! Plus being knackered means it's easier to sleep even if the work woes are still circling.

Without a doubt mate. I feel like a different person after a workout and have more energy. But it's just been crazy farking hours recently. Obviously all the other shit plays on my mind too and it's very draining. Things appear to be getting better in that regard so fingers crossed.

Bit of a weird few days. While wife was getting a scan at hospital on Friday I went for a walk. I had to send some emails on the phone and was standing on an slight incline. I must have been putting too much weight on the one leg, because I had a sudden and very sharp pain in my knee. Fark it hurt. I hobbled back to the hospital like a gimp and it gradually got better, but it was stiff as hell for a few hours. It's fine now, but damn it killed. Very weird.

Rested up on Saturday, but did the run plus chins/dips on Sunday. Knee was fine.

Today was chest and triceps. Very sore. Always a good sign.

16 May last update! Bloody hell I'm slack.

Last week was a bit of a write-off. Had a wedding that weekend but was at a beautiful location (Kingscliff) and did a heap of running. But was buggered on the Monday so no training. Did weights on Tues and Weds but had very sore forearm and lower back and reluctantly took the rest of the week off. Closest thing to exercise was running line at son's rugby (btw one of my backs scored one of the best tries I have ever seen, it was farking Cullenlike). Eating was pretty good on weekend.

Shame pool is too cold now. Would have been perfect.

Back to it on Monday and Tuesday. That Monday session was lovely. Felt like a new man afterwards.

Forearm and back not perfect, but better than last week.

Pissing down today so instead of getting chafed on the nuts from wet boxers I hit the gym. Tore myself a new arsehole on the treadmill and box jumps. Plenty of abs too. Very nice.

Youngest son's birthday party today, so I can now smash junk food with a clear conscience.
