Now or never: Taking it to the next level

Any opportunity to train with a mate? That can make a heap of difference, especially around motivation and intensity - if you are feeling meh hopefully your bro can bring the fire etc!!

We've been getting into more shoulder work as part of Olympic lifting. Military press, push press and wide grip press are all gnarly - nothing like a mean shoulder pump!

Keep that focus going mate and you'll be cranking, it's a good sign you are getting immediate food regret lol, like you said it's a message your body is going wtf Rancid - I thought we were going clean and lean!
-
I usually see an old friend at the gym once or twice a week but we usually end up chatting like old ladies and I get less done.

I should be right. Just need more sleep and less stress. The concerning thing is that before Id hit the gym no matter what the circumstances or the time. Now I'm a bit more...nja I'll give it a miss and watch crap on TV.

Well that stops now! Hopefully... -

Yeah bread no good for me really either. Pizza though.....no problem

The food thing is a bit weird. I'm having trouble enjoying anything at the moment. I've been trying to move away from the chicken plus rice/kumera but I find I just get bloated, which is a feeling I absolutely hate. Maybe I have to ramp up the running again to get so hungry that anything's good. -

Remember that exercise is one of the best stress killers - if I'm wound from work I have to workout these days so I don't go postal. Works a treat! Plus being knackered means it's easier to sleep even if the work woes are still circling.

Without a doubt mate. I feel like a different person after a workout and have more energy. But it's just been crazy farking hours recently. Obviously all the other shit plays on my mind too and it's very draining. Things appear to be getting better in that regard so fingers crossed. -
Bit of a weird few days. While wife was getting a scan at hospital on Friday I went for a walk. I had to send some emails on the phone and was standing on an slight incline. I must have been putting too much weight on the one leg, because I had a sudden and very sharp pain in my knee. Fark it hurt. I hobbled back to the hospital like a gimp and it gradually got better, but it was stiff as hell for a few hours. It's fine now, but damn it killed. Very weird.

Rested up on Saturday, but did the run plus chins/dips on Sunday. Knee was fine.

Today was chest and triceps. Very sore. Always a good sign. -
16 May last update! Bloody hell I'm slack.

Last week was a bit of a write-off. Had a wedding that weekend but was at a beautiful location (Kingscliff) and did a heap of running. But was buggered on the Monday so no training. Did weights on Tues and Weds but had very sore forearm and lower back and reluctantly took the rest of the week off. Closest thing to exercise was running line at son's rugby (btw one of my backs scored one of the best tries I have ever seen, it was farking Cullenlike). Eating was pretty good on weekend.

Shame pool is too cold now. Would have been perfect.

Back to it on Monday and Tuesday. That Monday session was lovely. Felt like a new man afterwards. -

Not a bad week. 4 days of weights and sleeping pretty well. Feeling a bit meh not having run, but will try to compensate big time on the weekend.

Forearm and back not perfect, but better than last week.
-

Push through those niggles bro - you'll come right. Getting runs on the board while you are feeling meh is a big win imo.

-
Pissing down today so instead of getting chafed on the nuts from wet boxers I hit the gym. Tore myself a new arsehole on the treadmill and box jumps. Plenty of abs too. Very nice.

Youngest son's birthday party today, so I can now smash junk food with a clear conscience. -

Have avoided this section of TSF for a couple of weeks because it reminds me that something terrible happened the day after the last post and it happened while I was training. Thankfully it seems things have stabilised. I really enjoy writing in this section and the people here are gold so I'm just going to push on.

I went out jogging on that Sunday. It was 4:30 in the afternoon which is early for me but the temp was nice and I felt like running. It was one of those perfect runs when it seems effortless. I went for about an hour and as I was coming home I was thinking about how lovely things were. As I ran up the slight hill to my house I sighted an ambulance parked out front. Naturally I freaked. I rushed in thinking something had happened to one of my boys. They were ok, but my wife was lying on the floor being tended to by paramedics. She'd blacked out and collapsed in the kitchen. The boys had heard a noise, rushed upstairs and then dialled 000 straight away. They are little heroes. The wife came to, but with a massive lump on her head and no recollection of what happened. She was taken to the hospital and scans revealed a brain tumour. Thankfully it was superficial and was removed 2 days later. It may not seem like it, but we dodged a bullet big time. If she hadn't collapsed it could have spread and that would have been it. She's in good spirits and we believe we can beat this. But the road will long and hard.

So training has been a bit erratic since then. While it's extremely tempting just to sit down in front of the TV, I've found that I'm much better equipped to face up to things after a good workout. I also feel a hell of a lot better. One thing I discovered on the weekend was the benefits of skipping. Despite past prejudices, that ain't a girls thing. Instead of running, I did skipping + punching bag x 10. There was plenty of good tired after that. Training today was back plus biceps. Will do either the skipping thing or a run tomorrow.
-

Yeah they're monitoring her closely now. It's a shitty situation, but there's no major spread and still treatment options. There are amazing things being achieved all the time in this field and hopefully they'll find a breakthrough drug soon. She just has to hang in there.

Holy shit dude.

I know I speak for everyone when I say our thoughts are with you guys. Why the fuck does the human body sometimes have issues for no apparent reason ? life truly sux like that.

Skipping is great and a few minutes on a slam man over the weekend made me realize I can still punch extremely well too. Keep the exercise up even in the tough times ( as my partner who is a fitness professional always tells me, endorphins etc )
-
Sorry to hear that. Great news that you managed to catch it early.
-

Oath, wishing you and your family all the best mate. Like you said they are doing some amazing things these days, hang in there and keep positive bro. Keep up the exercise if possible, great way to burn off stress and emotion and keep yourself in a better space.

Interesting cardio yesterday. My youngest (8) and I went into the garage and did skipping training. I'd do all the letters in the alphabet forwards then backwards then hand over the rope to him and he'd do whatever he could until he tired out. Did it heaps of times. Was completely smashed by the end of that. Made sure I had to do alphabet forwards and backwards, otherwise I had to start again. That got painful towards the end. No wonder boxers do this skipping stuff. It does root the lower legs though so have to be careful there.

Today: shoulders. Didn't have much time so smashed them with 5 exercises. Somehow forgot the military presses, but shoulders sore enough so all good.
-

Haven't even tried any of that fancy stuff but will give that cross thing a go. Son came home from school and immediately wanted to skip so it seems both of us are hooked.
