There's an awful lot of songs I've not minded in this thread, but this one I hated.

I already posted yummy yummy on another thread but here are some more from the so called golden age of pop

God, that song is so bloody awful its actually funny. Or to paraphrase Oscar Wilde: You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the demise of Honey...

    I'll disagree with that one.

As much as I'm not a fan of anything else O'Connor has done I think she did a perfect rendition of this. Even Prince couldn't top it and he wrote it.

Was massively overplayed to the point of annoying though.

Prince wrote a whole lot of songs that other artists did better.

This song was awful though, chrome dome sure had an annoying voice.

@victor-meldrew Yeah It's why I was keen to put up a version that showed the lyrics so people could .... enjoy ... the ... full poetic majesty of them

I mean it resonates with teh romantics the twig, the tears,

Such a fern thread. Gone to essentially "i don't like this band so this is the worst"

So any song by that Canadian band with the long hair and the lead singer has the teeth of a horse

Wait, what? Jacinda was in a band?

I'll stick up for Sinead as well. This is a really interesting article on that song, as a part of a wider series into every US number 1. Sinead ripping up a picture of the Pope on SNL looked insane at the time, but has aged remarkably well. https://www.stereogum.com/2160540/the-number-ones-sinead-oconnors-nothing-compares-2-u/columns/the-number-ones/

I'd say that's true for a lot of successful songs. Looking at this list (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Year-End_number-one_singles_and_albums) I don't see a lot of songs that have replayability for me.

    @antipodean Jesus wept.

Lot of novelty songs feature in the 60's.

A very high proportion of the top selling sounds could feature in this thread.

Adele did well to have the same album top seller two years running

This entire thread feels like his column when he gets whiny about a song he doesn't like because it's not cool enough. 😉

Me, I second @crucial nomination of that 4 Non Blonde song. I can't stand listening to that.

@nepia Then don't play it. There's still time to save your sanity.

It was a shit disco song, which was already a pretty low bar.

I’d personally put this in the “You know it’s shite but it’s actually a guilty pleasure” category.

    Not unlike this……
