    Great shot.

Lyon struggling to get consistent line with the left/right combo and not much assistance from the deck.

Ow fuck that looked painful. Bairstow not enjoying it. Bent the thumb back alarmingly.

Jos fails again. Terrible shot. Maybe a bit of pace off from Cummins but still ...

The Waj catching. Nice work for a lazy bloke.

England reached new levels of shit in their batting before lunch. Decent fight back by Stokes and Bairstow in the afternoon session but it won't be enough.

You need to turn up in Oz with an absolute gun team or you're going to get your arses handed to you.

I bet these Englishmen are wishing they could've escaped with a 3-test series.

David White & Co need to be thinking long and hard about what sort of pitches we're going to play them on when they presumably come here for this cycle of the WTC.

England will avoid the follow on here but be in a helluva lot of debt going into the second innings

Good day for England. Thought the Wood dismissal was a bit shit.

Bairstow the king. Stokes not far behind.

For the talk about the England openers, there is some work going into Rory Burns's technique/setup. Bharat Sundaresen is one of the more insightful behind-the-scenes posters about cricket on Twitter, and this wasn't the first mention of Burns spending extended time with Graham Thorpe since he was dropped:

Seriously good 50 from Stokes coming in under all sorts of pressure and the best bowling lineup in the world (ever?) with their tails up. Boy does he needs to go on with it though.

Marshall, Holding, Garner, Croft, Roberts etc say hi.

    That was shit, skipper

Tough chance, bloody hard to get those on the follow through

these two will both get hundreds now

Nice to be half right. Better than most manage on here.

But seriously, pretty happy for Bairstow, great fight and pride shown. Always nice when a pretty ho hum sort of a player has his moment.

Carey fluffs a straightforward take, and Bairstow nearly runs himself out.

You reckon Oz have time to win this ? If England go pretty soon and Warner comes out firing they’ll back themselves I reckon.

@mn5 I think there is time to get a quick 130 and put them in, and back Lyon on this wicket.

I hope we do BUT while the weather forecast doesn't look great, nothing looks bad on the radar.

    Bit of a balancing act.

How's Scott Boland finding test cricket?

Averages under 10 with the ball. Two tests for 11 wickets alongside Starc, Lyon and Cummins.

Hang on... Why is Pope allowed to play? He wasn't part of the XI?

Yeah will be interesting. Not sure they can rely on Stokes and Bairstow again, Root looks like he’s cracked under the strain and the openers are a pair of walking wickets.

Maybe Dawid with a W is up for the challenge after a couple of 80 odds earlier in the series.

That composure he was known for at the start of his career has certainly give. Fishing outside off stump regularly.
