The Alpinist - Think it's on Netflix.

Documentary about an Alpine climber, Marc-Andre LeClerc. Guy who climbs alone and has conquered some incredible mountains / climbs.

Really fascinating documentary, amazing the drive that the guy has. Should probably say now that if you've not heard of him, don't google him before hand and then simply watch the documentary as I did off the bat. I think knowing about him first would take away a lot of it.

    Highly recommended

It’s mentioned on the previous page. I just watched 14 Peaks the other day so I should watch this to see if it completes an outstanding climbing trifecta of Docos (Free Solo being the other).

The Tinder Swindler is pretty interesting. It certainly made the girl question me about a few things given that’s how we met and that we’ve bought a house together. I assured her the mortgage payments wouldn’t bounce and my children are really my children. Hopefully she believes me.

Hats off to him in a sense, takes amazing skills to pull off cons like that.

I watched this last night. Not only is it a crazy story, it's a really well done/made documentary. Was completely hooked from the start.

I would never post it, but I was in synch with the Social Media trolls before I started watching it. That the woman must have been greedy, money hungry suckers & got what they deserved for being so stupid.

But lets face it, when everything checks out, and your being swished around in Rolls Royces, flying in private jets, why wouldn't you think he was genuinely loaded? Amazing the lengths people go to for a con.

Yeah that’s just it, and you would easily think that with the wealth/prestige he supposedly has there would be people “after him” and he might need a bit of $$$ to tie him over. Far more clever than someone emailing you saying a relative in Nigeria has died and they need somewhere safe to put their money for a bit. When you’ve been in the jets, cars, hotels, parties etc it all looks very genuine.

I still can’t believe the first blond chick ended up 250k in the hole though. What a fucken mess.

    @MajorRage @MN5

One of his latest posts popped up on tiktok just yesterday I think. On a private jet with a hot bird pouring him champagne or something and an entourage. Tagging in tinder swindler and thanking them.

It's made him even more successful it seems.

Well either the Tinder Swindler was completely full of shit or he's got a set of brass balls on him like nobody else.

Almost halfway through Nike's Big Bet and it's really interesting and quite enlightening, after never having taken any notice of the actual details behind Salazar. It's really well done.

@bones Agreed. I watched the Salazaar story just the other night. The idea that he's serving a ban despite none of his athletes testing positive is ludicrous.

@antipodean yeah when you look at the actual transgressions as well, it's pretty "HUH??".

Just finished the Netflix doc about the 737 Max (Downfall: Case against Boeing).

Really worrying to see that the data was there and wasn't considered.

I can't imagine what that situation would be like for the pilots (plane starts plunging down due to a system you've never heard of and had no training about).

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of some of the pilots on here @Snowy etc.

It is fucking terrifying. The way the US air business is basically self regulated is frightening. Same sort of shit happens in RAF, when a nimrod went down a few years ago. But things got a big shake up then!

    Ejection seats are awesome 🙂

2/3s of the way through "Phat Tuesday" on Amazon

A funny light documentary on the black comedy night started at the Comedy Store in LA, at a time when there weren't a huge amount of opportunities for Black comics. As a guy of a certain age, it's jam packed full of 90s nostalgia, and goddam did some famous people perform there

Also, Snoop is stoned as a mother fucker and still smoking through his interview.

Jimmy Saville - A British Horror Story Netflix doc about celebrity paedophile Jimmy Saville and how he avoided exposure for 60+ years.

Sleaze-ball and clever sex abuser who was smart enough to avoid being caught in his lifetime. A lot of people knew, but no-one could prove anything - not even top investigative journalists. Compelling watch.

    Yeah wasn’t it just ?

Massive kudos to the woman who was interviewed and told us all what Savile did to her as a child in extremely graphic detail. Absolute sick fluffybunny.

The Royals, Thatcher and all those other fuckwits should hang their heads for not realising ( or caring ) what he was up to. I suppose the ratings and money raised were just too much to lose.

Seeing him interviewed it was so clear what a manipulative, functional sociopath he was and how he would have genuinely believed all the money he raised evened up the ledger in terms of getting away ( in his mind ) with all the depraved shit he did.

It’s an absolute tragedy that he died without facing any consequences for his actions.

I’m not the biggest Sex Pistols fan but Johnny Rotten is bang on here.

To be fair, the inquiries found they and many others simply weren't told. There were complaints at the BBC & hospitals but virtually none of them were passed to management as they were thought to be gossip which an eccentric like Saville generated, or were part of his act.

"He remembers seeing JS put his hand down the front of a female patient's clothing. Mr A was not able to recall her taking exception to this alleged behaviour. "He did not raise his concerns about JS's alleged behaviour, as he initially thought it was all part of the act."

He hid in plain sight and in his own words: "I'm not clever, I'm tricky.Clever people get caught, tricky people don't". He manipulated the whole country.

Yeah he was obviously extremely calculating and patient to get away with it like he did.

Still, as Johnny Rotten said others were part of it too.
