    The rocket part, well it ended up at 9.2% ABV.

    I'm not a big cider drinker, and that would put me to sleep after a few.

    Me too. I have ordered quite a few of the excellent Peckham's drops in the past and the higher ABV ones go straight to the head in a snoozy way.

    Sounds like a nice drop. Maybe not so much dextrose next time?

    Yeah, wasn't quite expecting it to be that high in terms of ABV. Was shooting for the 7.5% range but did not realise that the yeast was so efficient.

    Next cider will use a Western Sydney grower, Cedar Creek, who grow their own apples and other fruit and produce juices, both cloudy and clear.

    And yes, I will definitely not use as much dextrose, cut it by half I reckon and it should be good. Not that there is anything wrong with the Rocket cider as it's bloody good as it is.

    Can you get any proper cider apples? The old cider varieties make much better stuff (IMO) than 'dessert apples'

    We stayed at this place years ago and they have a massive collection of old apple trees

    Fruit Orchard Orange | Unique Farm Experience — Borrodell Estate

    Doesn't say that they sell apples or juice online but you can always try. The guy is a bit of a dagg and prob up for a yarn.

    Gotta love it when you pop in for a quiet drink and the owner of the bar invites you to a tasting of some beers he's considering ordering - for free.

    All 8 wired. The pick for me was Cloudchaser Hazy. With the current surfeit of hazy's its hard to find something different but this stood out. For once a beer name actually describes the beer. This was like gulping light frothy mouthfuls of wispy cloud only beer flavoured. The patron said its the amount of atas (and wheat) but either way it was a surprising delight. Not overly hoppy but with a long finish and great mouth feel. Surprised it was 7% as didn't come across as alcoholic at all - so a potentially dangerous drop. He ordered a keg there and then. I enjoyed four free beers plus the three I was having anyway. A good night all up.

    Booze Reviews | Tui 7.2% Strong Lager

    Booze Reviews | Tui 7.2% Strong Lager

    Tui has done it again. Earlier, with their standard lager, the brewery perfectly captured the taste of a minor fuck-up, a small leak in the life-boat, a failure to look both ways at a railway crossing, a sneaky look down the barrel of a firework to

    So apt

    @mn5

    I particularly liked

    Pairs well with: tears, despair

    Haven't tried it for obvious reasons but I have in the past forced the odd Tui down - at the cricket - and, based on those experiences, the review seems penetratingly accurate.

    @dogmeat @Machpants I’m definitely gonna try it.

    In the last couple of weeks I’ve deliberately showed the girl I can be disciplined and save money and hence I’ve found some cheaper beer options, some of them even taste ok !

    I have to try this one just for the experience, in fact fuck it, It’s 8am, I might pop off to the supermarket now and have one in the car park there.

    The last and only time I drank a Tui was also at the cricket. Blake Park back in the early 1990s.

    I’m ashamed to say I’ve had one this year. Handed to me by the other half’s uncle at his place in the Bay, complete with a “I know you’re into that craft beer stuff but this is all I have”

    A hot day so not completely awful.

    I've been seeing pics of @mariner4life yellow looking beers and they always look amazing (and kind of look like Harry Potter Butter Beers)

    Finally found some and they really are delicious all appear to be Hazy IPA's

    I think you needed a covid test if your sense of taste was that fucked.

    To be fair I don't quite get the scorn for Tui (at least in comparison to it's peers).
    Tui, Red, DB, Speights, Waikato etc etc are all pretty much the same beer with slight flavour profile differences
    Because they are all awful (except when you are really thirsty on a hot day), regular drinkers accustomed to one will find the others not to their liking.
    Maybe Tui is the least 'same'?

    @hooroo I mentioned previously that I have been working my way through Hazy IPAs and Pale Ales all summer. Some have been fantastic, others OK but I wouldn't buy again.

    One review said that Tui was like all the generic draught style NZ beers with a bit of poo mixed in. I think this is apt.

    I said “not completely awful” so this is hardly talking it up now is it ? 😉

    @machpants

    With that level of judgement I am shocked they ever let you near multi million pound pieces of highly complicated tech.

    Actually come to think of it having known a few Air Farce blokes I'm not surprised at all.

    As you were.
