They let the IPL guys go early which is understandable on one level but Boult now has been unavailable for four of the last six tests and three ODIs. So basically the entire home summer.

Is Adam Milne heading to the IPL?

I would have thought Cam Fletcher was a better prospect than Cleaver.

The NZ eleven named to play in the 3 warm up fixtures (starting today) has Jock McKenzie from Auckland. Is that the same young guy that has been training with the Blues as WTG First five?

The New Zealand XI face Netherlands behind closed doors in two one-day matches at Napier’s McLean Park on March 17 and 19 followed by a one-off T20 on March 21 – with all three matches live-streamed and scored at nzc.nz.
    New Zealand XI

    Michael Bracewell (c) (Wellington)

    Matt Bacon (Otago)

    Matt Boyle (Canterbury)

    Josh Clarkson (CD)

    Dane Cleaver (wk) (CD)

    James Hartshorn (Wellington)

    Mitch Hay (Canterbury)

    Jayden Lennox (CD)

    Angus McKenzie (Otago)

    Jock McKenzie (Auckland)

    Tim Pringle (ND)

    Ben Sears (Wellington)

Jesse Tashkoff (Wellington) – game 1

Ross Taylor (CD) - games 2 and 3

Should be an interesting series but cant say I'm too excited by our squads.

Netherlands team isn't horrible and has come a long way in recent times. A few local lads in there incl me mate Max Odowd who has a pretty awesome stat of something like 50 odd international appearances without ever having a duck. Wonder if he can make it through the series.

    edit - this stat https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/284086.html
A long way ahead of any other player too

Fun fact - I went to see the Netherlands play Scotland in Amsterdam. Was great fun - small crowd, lovely ground by the canals (complete with nets and a looooong handled ball collection device), dutch beer, cheese, and a cordoned off ICC area with no phones to try and avoid bookmakers.

Sat under a tree, on chairs provided, drank beer, ate cheese, shot the breeze and had a lovely day out. Scotland got up and won with 7 wickets and about 2 overs left.

They're a fair short form team, but our teop team we should win comfortably. Missing the stars though, who knows. Can't say I'm super excited

I’m the same, but I’m grateful it’s someone other than Bangladesh. Though I’m not expecting any close games, a new opposition always makes it an interesting watch for me.

@stargazer As I am currently in Napier I am gutted that no spectators are allowed into McLean Park. Shame they could not play it over on Nelson Park where it would be impossible to keep interested spectators out. One would have thought they would be encouraging any spectators remotely interested in cricket to turn up and watch in these days of almost zero attendances at local cricket. And yes I am a fairly regular attender at Plunket Shield matches at the Basin Reserve, along with about a dozen or 20 other viewers on a good day.

@higgins Yeah, there were only expensive hospitality packages available.

It's strange. Last year, when there were also crowd restrictions, they still let in plenty of spectators during our NPC games. Maybe that was the HBRU's work, I don't know. The same crowd restrictions apply now (with vaccine pass), but it seems they (NZ Cricket?) can't be bothered.

@stargazer Not for the BoP game they didn't, although it was noted there was a more than a fair share of away supporters present to see their team's demise.

It's an NZ XI. No NZ A.

Not even a List A match status (although it should be, if it isn't going to be 12-a-side), let alone an ODI.

Basically a collection of youngsters who aren't in the provincial teams for plunket shield, plus some of the squad who will play the lone T20I; Cleaver, Sears (although he's 12th man today). Plus M Bracewell to captain them

Although Josh Clarkson would be NZ A level in this format.
