If anything Rambo 4 was too short. Could have used another 20 odd minutes to build up the supporting characters.
<br />
<br />
that way they coulda added some story...<br />
<br />
Sometimes mindless violence and plain action is all that is needed in a movie!<br />
<br />
I recall the uproar of people who went and watched the South Park movie...why would you go to South Park, unless you knew what South Park was, therefore, you dont go unless you like it!

Gripping action film along the lines of the Bourne films. Ex cia operative's daughter gets kidnapped, cia guy kills the bad guys.<br />
<br />
Very well done I thought.
<br />

As I think I mentioned earlier taken was awesome to start with before it got all Commando in the end. I would have liked it better if Neesons character was a bit more fallible rather than the Arnie/Van Damme killing machine who nevers gets a scratch. Hes got great presence though, no denying that.

People were not expecting the all out gore I think. Mind went to a film festival and they had a preview of "A History of Violence" and a couple with young kids got upset with the "violence" in the movie ... go figure, the title wasn't a give a away then xzxunknown

When Evil Reigns - ultra cheap Aussie Indie movie reputably made for $5k. Some interesting ideas, a nice take on the zombie thing in a 28 Days Later fashion, plot holes galore, and crap effects. Reasonably enjoyable if you don't mind amateur movie making. Actually a lot better than some of the Boredwood zombie flicks infecting (see what I did there) our cinemas recently.<br />
<br />
DVD available from www.whenevilreigns.com for $10 with international postage of $7 (all AUD). Worth a look, and heck if you live in the UK or the States that about a buck fifty given the Aussie peso exchange rate. My apologises to the site Admins if mentioning a url is against board rules, please note I have no affiliation to the movie makers in any shape or form.

I really liked the movie apart for the lame acting by Neeson's onscreen daughter. She was woeful.<br />

Just watched RocknRolla the other day. l love those gritty but witty pommy criminal films. And it's wasn't hard at all to watch One Two and Handsome Bob...yummy <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />) I'm definitely going to buy the DVD. The guy who played Johnny (?) Quid was great, apparently he lost 1 1/2 stone in a couple of weeks for this part. He looked every inch the skeletel junky.

I'd like to get hold of the latest version (2009) of Wuthering Heights that viewed on pbs in pommy land earlier this year. Amazon has copies but they are only suitable for playing in Region 1 which I gather Oz is not. Anyone have any ideas where I might source a suitable version for Southern Hemisphere DVD players ?

Not sure about Aus, but NZ DVD Players are all multi region, plus you should be able to find an unlock code online...

<br />
Majority are region encoded except for panasonic I think who are region free. As you say check model and brand name online for an unlock code for everything else.<br />
<br />
"Land of the Dead" - mainly due to Aussie Simon Baker gettting a leading role. Movie has grown on me since I dismissed it on release. Warning high gore content as per usual for a Romero movie.<br />
<br />
"Australia" - quite frankly the worse movie I've seen thus far this century. Fuck me what a load of melodramatic bollocks. <br />
<br />
"Clubland" - quiet Aussie rom-com that wasn't what I expected. Worth a look if Rom-Coms are your thing, warning some nudity <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I just stumbled across an essay titled "Commando Is The Best Film Ever" written by the film's director, with clips:<br />
<br />
Part One: <br />

Watched rambo lasty night on tele. Never watched any of this franchise, but did mainly coz I seem to recollect it getting rave reviews here when it came out.<br />
<br />
Quite possibly the most pointless waste of 75 mins of my life ever and easily in my top 10 worst movie experiences. Having fire ants stuffed down yr trousers would be a more entertaining way to spend and hr and a 1/4 IMO.
<br />
<br />
Watch First Blood, that's the best one, one of the great action films and much less comic book than Rambo.
<br />
<br />
"First Blood" was terrific. I saw it when it came out at the cinema three times. The guy who wrote the original book (David Morrell) went to the same high school as me (graduated many years earlier) and I worked at a bookstore in varsity with his nephew (who was something of a lit-snob and actually kinda embarrassed about his relationship - go figure!).<br />
<br />
What I was forever scratching my chin about was the series' confounded sequence of titles.<br />
<br />
First, there was "First Blood."<br />
<br />
Then there was "Rambo: First Blood Part 2."<br />
<br />
That was followed by "Rambo 3."<br />
<br />
Now, shouldn't that third film have been titled "Rambo 2: First Blood Part 3"? <br />
<br />
Or did I miss a sequel, and "Rambo 3" was actually "First Blood Part 4"??

Nah, it's just about name recognition. It's not like Die Hard, people remember the character more than the source movie title.

Standard DVD version of 007 Casino Royale, good, 7/10 because it was a bit dated already.<br />
<br />
Quantum of Solace, bluray, 8/10 because there's only so much watching dumb bad guys you need. This movie will date fast too. It's also dangerously close to the plot of Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy (read it if you haven't) - just a sort of lite version. The new Bond is great though and the minimal reliance on gadgets was refreshing.

Yes Man; Jim Carrey - 5.9/10<br />
<br />
Had some funny moments, largely average though, and for some reason they seem to always feel compelled to get Carrey to do one of his rubber body/face scenes, as if people like it!

<br />
"The Women" - surprisingly entertaining.<br />
<br />
"The Square" - excellent Aussie crime thriller.<br />
<br />
"Dying Breed" - load of shite, great cinematography however.
