Stead it's time to go. Honestly I think our success in the last four years under him is in spite of him instead of due to him (CWC19, WTC2021, T20WC). Our test team for about 5 years essentially picked itself (apart from the introduction of Jamieson) until the WTC final, and since then our selections have been hilariously shocking.
I'm a pessimist when it comes to the Black Caps and even I thought we'd beat Bangas and SA but perhaps lose this series 2-1 or 2-0 once BJ and Roscoe had gone. Instead we somehow draw both home series and then lost 3-0? That's as bad as you could possibly expect given the talent in the side.
Williamson has a big impact in Selections in fact he gets the team he wants,So he is more selecting the side than Stead.
Its not all on Stead. And that is from a guaranteed source.Given Williamson has been seen more often for Sunrisers Hyderabad lately than for the Black Caps, and that he's about to be rested again, perhaps it's time for Williamson's non-batting influence to be examined a bit more closely.
I'm not sure that Williamson would have bowled Patel often/well even had he been included in the side. Mitchell isn't necessarily the world's greatest test bowler, but you'd have been forgiven for thinking we didn't have a fifth bowler at all at Headingly.
(And if he's had any say in Wagner's non-selections in India and England...!?!!)
I think we saw Williamson not bowling Patel in the first test as a sign he doesn’t rate him that highly.
If Williamson wanted Wagner in the team he would have been in the team he welds a lot of power in selections. -

Its not all on Stead. And that is from a guaranteed source.I would have assumed that too. Test cricket is one of the rare sports where the Captain has as much power to select the team as the coach, if not more. Not Kane's finest hour
Yes all the power in Cricket with the Skip.

@MN5 Probably because he never gets picked.
Dunno if he's available, but he's not a good enough bowler to command an allrounder spot in a test team - and he's not a good enough batsman to command a specialist batting spot.
Apparently, he doesn't even warrant a NZC contract - though that's a mystery to me - should be one of the first picked for ODIs and T20s.
He doesn't have a domestic contract in NZ either. It's seems he must be rubbing someone the wrong way as I agree he should be one of the first picks for white ball cricket.

Not much,I am not defending Stead just trying to get people to realise it’s Kane who dominates selections.
I think the team needs a new voice at the top so Stead needs to go. -

I think the team needs a new voice at the top so Stead needs to go.Wouldn't it be great if we brought Macca back to bounce ideas off... oh wait..... Is a cricket coach more like a tennis coach than a rugby coach? A tennis coach is there to discuss strategy and tactics more than teaching the player how to hit the ball. If Stead isn't discussing tactics with Kane, and based on our rudderless performances I'd say not, what is he doing there?

Neesham has moved back to Auckland too. Maybe he wants to be a gun for hire like Munro.

Edit Craig McMillan would be a great choice as head coach he thinks outside the box and he did a great job as batting coach while he was there.

The best available candidate Henrich Malan already left because of the closed-shop cronyism at NZC HQ.

It seems that you have to live in close proximity to Lincoln to be the NZ mens/women's cricket coach.

I listened to a bit of the radio commentary last night during the last session of play and it was two English fellas (don’t know who they were) and Jeremy Coney.
A lot of discussion about Williamson’s future as captain and they made a lot of good points I thought in favour of him stepping aside or him being displaced.
Here’s a somewhat radical idea, but what about Mitch Jnr? He’s mature, taken a somewhat hard path so has learned plenty of lessons along the way (no not a journey 😉), clearly has good temperament and I think it’s enough of a shift away from the old guard.
With his performance in this series, he would have his test spot in concrete at least for a good while into the future.

He's only been in the side for 5 minutes. From probably not getting a game until Nicholls went out of game 1, to test Cap would be a meteoric rise to say the least. I don't know what is wrong with Kane, is it physical? Is the captaincy affecting his batting? Certainly his preference to stay the course rather than chop and change like McCullum did was a weakness in this series IMHO. Joe Root stepped aside from the captaincy, Kane would need to voluntarily go because I don't think he will be pushed anytime soon

As amazing as Johns son has been is it a sign of things to come or will his form deteriorate as time goes on ?
Let’s not forget Conway did this last year and his figures now are looking decidedly more “normal”
