This means volume for volume, a plane on hydrogen can fly fourtimesless* than a plane on kerosine (sp)!*

    Swings and roundabouts.

I never managed a blast through there, sadly. There is a slightly crapper version in Scotland, which is still pretty awesome, sides aren’t as vertical though

We often see RAF aircraft down our way - A400's, Hawks, Merlins and the occasional pair of F15's. But one of these lumbered across the sky on its way to Newquay airport.

Seriously awe-inspiring and makes the two F15's I saw flying low over the Bodmin valley look tame.

@Victor-Meldrew big besties. Merlins are RN/RM, have been for a few years. Hawks might've been Navy too, but they retired theirs this year

Culdrose I think. Lots of flypasts when the Hawks retired earlier this year. Miss them.

To used to be FRaDU at Yeovilton, then when Portland closed down, and lynx moved in, the hawks went to Culdrose. In the same way the RAF is trying to big up its squadron list, by giving squadron numbers to stuff that shouldn't be squadrons, the hawks became 723 NAS.

Really common, when the plane's fly themselves and you're sitting in a comfy seat. Low arousal, long dull as shit days, literally nothing to do, etc. You doze off, normally just one pilot, but sometimes both. Humans are almost always the problem in aviation

Used to know a BA Captain who hated having ex-RAF pilots as second officers as "They want to fly the planes too much when they fly themselves. We're only there if things go wrong"

In that podcast series I referenced last week about the Battle of Cresey (Cautionary Tales) there's an episode on a Russian airliner crashing because, amongst other reasons, they didn't trust the autopilot enough. (After initial fuck up the pilots and autopilot kept over riding each other.)

That was a really good episode. Because of the kids I kept wanting the outcome to be different despite the fact I knew the outcome.
