i just went and read the first 40-odd pages.
Are you insane? Or suicidal?
it was pretty funny looking that far back, our opinions, our fears.
Did I get anything right? Would be a first...
no you fuck you were too busy gloating about being "locked down" in Q-Town
Actually a few of us were saying the same shit we were saying in Dec 2021.
But it's just funny how quickly we initially thought it would be all over, and how we thought there was no way governments would wall us off from the world "for even 6 months! catastrophic!"
-
@mariner4life TBF, it was all pretty unknown for a decent period of time, so people (myself included) were unsure of everything and where the world was headed.
Covid still impacts some stuff, Mrs TR is due to have surgery on Tuesday, the Hospital told her she needs to do a RAT on Sunday, Monday and they will test her on the day, I am not allowed to go into the hospital with her.

I miss those times

A number of threads this could go into...

so I found out today we are still at Alert Level Orange...
On Thursday afternoon, Covid-19 Response Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall said moving back to red was “unnecessary at the moment”, and that we could continue to manage the virus at orange.

Ha, thought I had deleted the covid tracing app
Funny thing is, the 2 people at my work that registered thier positive result on that day, weren't at work...so I wonder if its just been some random stranger ive been in a shop with or passed in the street...this is the 1st time I've had that notification.

After reading this on ABC news feed, i keep seeing this syndicated headline posted everywhere the past two days, everywhere except NZH and Stuff, my go-to hair-on-fire Covid sources. What gives? Why are they burying this? Is it international news wire fake news, or simply inconvenient?
-
@Kid-Chocolate So waiting the storm out didn't work and the same people are affected, the elderly?

This was in the UK news yesterday. A number of epidemiologists were explaining that NZ's historically low infection rate is almost certainly the cause of the big rise in Covid deaths and it's being seen in other countries with low infection rates too.
They said a hybrid of a strong vaccination programme (immunisation and an annual booster) together with a relatively high infection rate gives the best defence from Covid, according to the latest global data.
-
@Kid-Chocolate It's been on the Herald. I just don't think it's news to most Kiwi's. We have accepted that there will be 15-20 "deaths with Covid" a day.
It's also ignoring the fact that we have had 2,000 deaths to date 385/million which rates us 139th in the world. There is a great deal of glee about NZ's current covid situation by those who are philosophically opposed to the way we have reacted to the pandemic from individuals, media outlets and governments. Like most things Covid related it is usually incredibly biased and ignores the reality.

Only because it's clearly (right/wrong; delete one at your leisure) and the response was (world class/a disaster)
-
Numbers have been inflated a bit anyway, by the deaths within 28 days metric. I saw on news a few days ago that they were revising that 'back' to counting in a more normal way. That metric really only useful if/when you are getting swamped. When that aired it was going to reduce the death count from 1800ish to 1200ish. So a 33% overcount.
Anyway, always was going to be an exit wave.
Pleased/mildy surprised there wasn't any over-reaction to the exit waves, Especially given the overcount. Guess the public are over it ... plus the threat/reality of recession.

Possibly shared on one of the many Foster threads
Waiting for the story about one of them stinking out the toilets next….

Daily readings of NZH and Stuff also seem to indicate most Kiwis have accepted we’ll always have a teenage boy band sensation and hook-up marriage reality tv shows, and that hasn’t stopped either news org from positioning the latest hype from that cultural crap to the top of the headlines.

Fair play to them. The whole thing has objectively been a farce.
NZ kicked the can down the road for two years while the rest of the world now has better natural immunity.
Glastonbury on two weeks ago with 120k people licking each others faces in a field.
Meanwhile....
Curtain twitchers in a NZ airport are ratting on the countries healthiest athletes walking to their plane without a mask.

When the tide goes out you can see who isn't wearing any shorts.
After two and a half years they still want people to buy into this nonsense.
Officialdom is pissing down our necks and telling us its raining.
People have eyes and ears, can see in their own social circles who is sick and for how long.
You don't see self employed people complaining of long covid.
Only welfare scroungers and people with cushy sick pay schemes.
An invisible boogey man used and abused by governments and layabouts alike.
-
@Steve TBF, I know a few people who have 'long covid' and they are not lay-about types.
I still havent had covid (that I am aware of) but the people I know that have had it and the flu that has been equally as rampant this winter, say the flu is worse, however the lethargy and energy draining of covid lasts a longer than the flu.
That being said, unless someone has it, Covid is becoming a non-issue aside from the constant attempts of the govt and media to keep it front and centre, and the 'experts' trying to stay relevant.
