Into Abbey Road legends, that session
Pretty sure that the Neumann mic she is singing into is the same one I saw on display at a small Abbey Road exhibition at the Barbican a few years ago.

@Crucial We've just watched the Bacharach tribute documentary on the BBC and he was talking about this recording of the song (which he rated his favourite).
"We ended up doing 30-40 takes which was really hard on the singer. George Martin thought we should stop at the 4th take but, perfectionist that I am, I wanted to carry on. George, inevitably, was right. We used, I think, the 3rd take...."

I think it is in the recent Abbey Rd doc by Mary McCartney that BB said "I just want a bit of magic' and George pointed him back to that earlier take.

Great story. Jimmy Webb says something pretty much the same about recording with George Martin in his memoir - how he seemed to have an infallible sense of what worked and when to stop.

Trust me you need Ren. The boy is a brilliant story teller. He calls his style 'Bardcore'
A trilogy of songs telling one harrowing, confronting story.
Also see the amazing 'Hi Ren' posted here earlier by @Matchpants - recorded live on the 4th take, its had over 6 million views in 2 months.
-
@Daffy-Jaffy Yeah, not sure I trust you.
A mate sent me a video of "Hi Ren" yesterday... I dismissed it as a virus.
But after you mentioning this guy, it rang a bell, so...
Just watched it... I went from "Bored... intrigued... bored... maybe... pretentious... bored... intrigued... pretentious... maybe-needs-clinical-help... will-reserve-judgement".
Have only given one of your suggested clips a 30s treatment to-date, but got the same impression.
Weird - as the general vibe/style/non-genre vibe of it seems like something I'd normally like. But, I'm just not getting it. It's seeming... contrived, and shallow, maybe?
Might give it another go tomorrow.
(Edit: after watching the 2nd video a preview... I'm fucking angry with myself for missing Kate Tempest last weekend. I had a ticket, but 'stuck' in Taranaki.) -
Don't you love those days when it's a bit of a nothing day then something turns it 100%?
Standard Rage house morning. Kids up, breakfast, dropped wife off at the station then kids off at school. On the drive home turned on Planet Rock just as this little beauty was starting.
Mood changer!!
Every body loves the middle aged bloke in the family car with the stereo up full noise and head banging.
