Canes v Tahs (and drinks?)

Should be red

Probably should have been. It was more than "not in a position to catch the ball". He tackled him. Very lucky it wS only yellow. -

I agree it should be red but nothing else Pollock can do. He was being consistent.

No. Incident was more than in past weeks. So deserved more. -

You mean the wrestling for the ball on Foley? They were strangely quiet for Tahs infractions though - well, except for the pockets of Canes supporters.

As you say, that's what home support is for - although the crowd wasn't as feral this week as during the Chiefs game (and I had worse seats so you'd think I'd be near more bogans).

We had dipshit young guys sitting behind us the entire match talking inane shit. They're 23, how do I know this? They were discussing whether they were the same age as Taylor Swift and so they mentioned their ages about 10 times in the conversation.

I like the free buses from Central to Moore Park so I didn't have to wobble up the slope up to the ground.

How did that fat fella on the wing make a test team, and no I don't mean Savea (who was average yet again, tits for hands and his best run was a 20 metre bust going sideways across the field) but the prop sized Fijian for NSW?
-

Barrett was OK in that incident IMHO.

Reserve prop straight onto the face, less so. -

Was that is the same movement? I think that prop's arm was coming from behind Barrett so he actually would have had little idea of where his arm was. In saying that I was fine with a penalty for it - if only for the fact it kept the fans in our section from rioting - once they figured out the age gap between Swift and Loki.
-

Wife is not a native speaker of English so rarely makes much comment on what is being said during commentary, but even she though Kearns sounded miserable.

Great win for the Canes, Michael Cheika on the other hand will be worried given how poorly Australian teams have done this year.
-

Yeah same movement.
-

The Kearns incident that riled me was when Phipps kicked the ball back into the scrum

We all watched the replay thinking "did he really do that?"

And yep, he gave it a wee nudge, along with the No.8

Not fuckwit Kearns though. He went into the replay thinking "no way did he do that so obviously Pollock is making shit up against my team"

Is that really the standard of commentary that's acceptable?

Is Aussie rugby trying so hard to get exposure in a saturated sports market that the broadcaster condones the biased ramblings of the pub drunk in the corner?
-

The Canes would have put 50 on the Tahs if it didn't rain to be fair. The Waratahs were sluggish in everything they did. Instead of backing themselves to play expansive rugby they reverted to an English type game plan. You would expect more from a Gibson coached team surely.

I don't watch a lot of Super rugby these days but I did watch the game last night and Kearns does spew a lot of shit. The guy doesn't seem capable of being objective, but maybe that's his schtick for the cameras. Or maybe he is the fluffybunny he makes out to be
-

It only rained for about 10 minutes, Canes inaccuracy contributed to the closeness of the game.

I was on a school rugby tour in the early 90s and we played Randwick High so we went down to Randwick club training. One of the guys in the HS team had a pretty hot, but clearly young girlfriend. Kearns basically asked us for her details and told us her boyfriend better watch out. So yeah, I think he's just a fluffybunny.
-

Bingo. With the Tahs pack, the gameplan is pretty simple but effective; bend the line, draw in defenders and then spread it wide with pace. When executed well we're very difficult to stop. A number of times last night our execution let us down at just the wrong time.

For all the TMO gets involved, the trip on Kellaway should have been a YC, the neck roll/ face pull on Foley should have been more harshly dealt with and Pollock should have sent Coles from the field to clam down. No way I'd accept a captain speaking to me like that.
-

Does this mean the Tahs will probably miss out on the play-offs? Very sad times. I will miss their gentlemanly conduct and sense of fair-play which has lit up the competition over the last couple of seasons.

If we're talking about the same incident (Tahs guy kicks over the top, Canes forward turns his back but moves into his path) I thought a penalty would have been understandable, the Foley one was odd because Barrett was the primary tackler but the guy who actually did the facial was the fatty who was behind BB, which could be his only defence. On the other side Foley falling into the tackle of the Canes MF that earned a YC was a little harsh I reckon. Good on Foley to recover from a near concussion to slot the penalty though ;)
-
In a sport where there are contentious decisions every minute if you look hard enough, contentious stuff in the background all the time if you're looking for it, and where your national and state teams are struggling often. How on earth can it be beneficial for the sport, in a market as competitive as Australia's, to put a whining bore in the commentary box to piss in the collective cornflakes and drag everyone down into his misery.

Baffling, no wonder rugby will struggle in Australia with that level of lack of common sense.

It's sport, it's supposed to be fun. Even if you're not winning its at least not supposed to be complete misery.
