@Winger that calibre of player is hard to get though unless you get a young gun from your region who becomes your starter, like Barrett and Cruden until he left.

At least these young guys have promise. Rather them than a proven dud in JGB.

JGB had some great games esp for Wellington But too many poor or average ones. For example he was great in last yrs NPC v Auckland. But poorish in the final. Morgan replaced JGB but was worse. Both are inconsistent (as Morgan also had some good games before he lost his starting position).

Hopefully Sangster is back soon. Him and IWL would be my starting 2. Won't happen though with Blackwell there.

Dislocated thumbs take about 6 weeks. So I don't think we'll see Sangster back until about round 6/7

Tevita Mafileo suspended for 3 weeks

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee has accepted a guilty plea from Tevita Mafileo of
the Hurricanes for contravening Law 9.20: Dangerous play in a ruck or maul, after he was Red
Carded during a Super Rugby Pacific Match at the Weekend.

Mafileo has been suspended from all forms of the game for 3 weeks up to and including 25
    March 2023.

The incident occurred in the 43rd minute of the match between the Rebels and Hurricanes at
AAMI Park in Melbourne on 3 March 2023.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee of Michael Heron KC (Chair), John Langford and
    Stefan Terblanche assessed the case.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Michael Heron KC ruled the following:

"Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles
and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative,
Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the Red Card under Law 9.20."

"With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a
mid-range entry point of 6 weeks due to the World Rugby instructions that dictate "any act of foul
play which results in contact with the head and/or the neck shall result in at least a mid-range
sanction". However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player's clean judicial
record and pleading guilty at the first available opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee
reduced the suspension to 3 weeks."

"Additionally, due to this incident being the Player's first offence, the FPRC have deemed Tevita
Mafileo eligible to apply for World Rugby's Head Contact Process – Coaching Intervention.”

"The player is therefore suspended for 3 weeks, up to and including the 25th March 2023.”

    And from the article below:

The suspension will see Mafileo miss the next three Hurricanes fixtures, against the Blues, Waratahs and Moana Pasifika.

He will be free to return for the round six clash against the Force in Palmerston North on April 2.

Hopefully P RS is fit and ready to play. Otherwise we are into our reserves. Unless Tosi can play LH.

Hopefully we keep Ardie (surprised this hasn't been decided yet as well)

edit who would be our backup LH. (Could Sheck play LH)

@Winger depends if he made the gesture and then took out someones knee...

But in reality, I see little dfference in what Ardie did vs when you see a couple of players square up, one goes to throw a punch, but either decides not to or a team mate pulls him back before he does, nothing is made of this, usually just a penalty against someone, end of story.

I think why this is being made a big deal, is people see the gesture as a threat to kill, which we know it wasnt, surely Ardie's exemplary record of never killing anyone should be taken into account?

I expect he will be given a week off though.

I imagine if Carlos' single finger salute to the rabid cantabs or Andrew Merhtens double finger salute to the rabid Loftus crowd happened today, both would be cited too....

What a dumb article. I haven't heard anyone condoning what Ardie did.
What I have heard is people complaining that the Stan presenter went on and on and on and on....
And I have heard that although what he did was stupid and a lack of control, there was no harm done to anyone else and that a sentence similar to actual physical harm seems over the top.
If they do continue down the path of punishment I hope the Canes lawyers get to state the case that the little shit he pulled out and supposedly 'escalated' things by doing so had run in 20 metres and pushed his way through the squabble to be standing over players on the ground. Escalation?
