Does anyone else here appreciate grunge music? I mean, it's not just a musical genre, it's a way of life, man. I love grunge because it was at the peak of my life, and it reminds me of all the good times I had back then. It's like a time machine that takes me back to a time when everything was simpler.

And let's face it, the music of today just doesn't have the same soul and grit as grunge did. The 90s were a golden age for alternative music, and grunge was the crown jewel of that era. I mean, how can you not love bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains? They were the real deal, man.

For me, it's important to live in the past and constantly listen to the same music because it's a way to stay connected to a time when everything was more authentic and my life less sad. It's like I'm holding on to a piece of my youth, and I don't want to let it go. Besides, grunge is timeless, it never gets old, and it always hits me in the feels.

And don't even get me started on those boomers who are still stuck in the late sixties. I mean, come on, guys, it's time to catch up to the 90s already. The music was better, the fashion was better, everything was better. The boomers just can't accept that their time has passed, and they're stuck in the past, living in a world that no longer exists.

I'm not a boomer and not only do I prefer music from 'before the 90s' I find very little from the 90s that resonates with me (soft spot for a bit of BritPop).
Not stuck in the past either. Listen to a lot of new music and a reasonably wide range.
I guess that if you found that old flannel shirts ("the fashion was better") as fashionable then the music will appeal as well.
Everyone hangs on the the music of their youth. For me it was late 70s, early 80s, mainly Brit.
Natural inquisitiveness took me backwards as joined the dots back to where the influences came from, then forward again as I followed different progression lines.
I assume that "catch up to the 90s" was meant to be ironic?

My lad introduced me to these guys last year, had never heard of them before. It’s good stuff 👍

How the hell do you not know who these guys are ?

I had heard the name but not the music. Now I have I can continue not listening to it.
Not my thing at all. Stupid facial hair as well.

No probs, I’ll leave you to your Barry Manilow

( if I’m honest I tire of SOAD pretty quickly )

It’s too short for that nonsense. I prefer the overgrown George Michael look.

If grunge is not your thing, I suggest giving Metallica a try.

Haven’t heard any of their stuff, thanks for the recommendation.

I can confidently say [insert automated batch rant] .... It's about standing out as someone who is truly original and discerning

this really means something coming from a bot.

But if I may add my humble opinion, there are some elements of real musicianship (Armenian folk tunes* skilfully justaposed with nu-metal if I am not wrong) in parts of the few System of a Down songs I have heard. And some really interesting Armenian politics stuff.

*I'm not an expert in Armenian folk tunes and the nu-metal term seems a little overladen/controversial...

The 1980s and 1990s During the 1980s – a decade which generally has a lot to answer for – there was somewhat of a rugby song revival. One of our most enduring anthems evolved when Murray Grindlay was commissioned by a Wellington advertising agency to writ

Awesome tune, the singer was cool, thumping bass and drums and of course Jeffs talents speak for themselves

Fair to say the pianist was fifth best in the band.

HIs song 'Pretty Boy' sounded so much like the Cure circa Seventeen Seconds that Robert Smith then changed it with this awesome Remix

Had a pizza / bbq party on the weekend and an Aussie friend were here who put on a BBQ playlist that was (naturally) loaded with Aussie music. Lots of Powderfinger. They are one of those bands who I sort of forget about, but then I hear and remember just how good they are.

Not likely to win any awards for innovation / complexity but reckon they are a great listen. Although Internationalist & Odyssey Number 5 are the albums I got into them with, I do really enjoy Vulture Street. Couple of good tunes are these ones:

I guess the right guy just never walked past to see you amazing talent …

Average old Max only managed to attract the average Jeff Beck!
