@mariner4life Canes defence is closest to the likes of Jerry or Kaino, but he doesnt seem suited to how we want our 6 to play...

He put a huge hit on a front rower in the weekend who in most cases would have scored, but no, Cane came from nowhere and stopped him dead.

    Great tackler, sure.
But does he still have the speed at international level to get around the park effectively?

@Kirwan the problem for Akira is he couldn't replicate his form vs Aussie when he played the Boks.

he's not alone there. There is a rogues gallery of forwards who look good beating up shit Aussie packs and then failing against others. Lots of them have played 6.

Upvoted solely for the use of rogues gallery.

Beaudy and Mo'unga are rightfully nowhere to be seen.

Haven't been great this year so far - but still a long way to go. If DMac continues to show his maturity and cutting out the risky plays, he's a shoe-in for me. Both RM & BB have always had that little bit of flakiness which always worries you.

Be interesting who'll be the the next off the cab rank - Ritchie or BB?

@Bovidae it's almost guaranteed they will carry two loose forwards on the bench. Barrett will start at 6 and then move to lock. Cane will get subbed. Savea will play 80.

DP will bench, the guy covering 6 is the "unknown" at this stage.

I reckon you can probably pen in 22 of the 23 that will be named for the knock-outs now.

While Barrett at 6 mightn’t be perfect in lots of peoples eyes , I think with cane and ardie starting , he seems to be best equipped to add the stuff that is lacking , if that makes sense .

I thought our pack did look best last year with that set up .

Then we could have something like Hoskins and Blackadder on the bench with scooter playing 80 Minutes .

And one injury to lock has you changing two positions instead of one, and not to mention it's repeating the mistakes of 2019 if we are at all interested in learning from that tournament...

i hate it, i was purely predicting who will be picked

i fucking hate the way the ABs start players who also cover others. If you want to change your 10, you also need to change your 15 in our current set up etc

If I was really honest I’m not sold on it either ,

But of all the options we tried last year it seemed to operate the best , or that’s how I saw it at the time .

So I’m probably going along with it more than endorsing it . And can be easily persuaded if I see something better .

Crikey - you guys think Fozzie is going to change his first-five with five games left to the World Cup?

The Richie (without a T)/Beaudy question got answered comprehensively last year - and the subtext of that question was "Who will start at the Rugby World Cup?".

I need to be careful not to post drunk or I'll end up in a hat eating bet! 🙂

last year he was timed as taking much more time at ABs between rucks than Dalton P. good if he has regained speed since then..

Throw that ingredient into the hat sauce!

On pure current form criteria, then Blackadder (who is out with injury) and Scott Barrett (who plays at lock) should not be considered for the 6 jersey. The form blindside flanker is Finau, IMO : consistantly big workrate, abrasive in defense and making the hard yards ball in hand.

@Chris-B the one season wonder brigade all coming out of the woodwork , last year there people posting wanting Kurt Eklund and even AJ Lam to wear an All Black jersey .🤦🏻‍♂️
Just because a team is having an oustanding season does’nt mean everyone in the squad should be getting a look in.
For me Shaun Stephenson has always had the skillset to play international rugby but has added constincency to his game.
The injury to Sevu Reece has defintely opened a door for other contenders ,not totally sold on Narawa only because i dont see a full alround game

D Mac without question is the form 10 , seems to have the best game management
Been impressed with Roigard , because he brings a running game thats not to afraid to take on forwards around the ruck
Its a real shame we still dont have the African teams in the comp , it forced NZ teams to roll their sleeves up physically especially for the vigors international rugby.

Hang on, you just complained about players getting AB heat from a good season with the Blues, then do exactly the same with this year’s form team?

@Kirwan As i said Stephenson has always had a skill set that would grace international rugby without finding consistency required
regarding Roigard i said i was impressed with aspects of his play ,at no stage did i say he should be in the ABs which differs to some of the calls i was hearing
The are contenders at this stage

@Steven-Harris I'll be pretty amazed if Mo'unga isn't locked in at first five. Simply in terms of man-management it would be a bit stupid to send signals to him that we don't really trust you this late in the day, while waiting to see how DMac's game transitions from Super rugby. Aside from which I'm way more upbeat about Richie's game than most on the Fern - I'm pretty much with Tim Horan, who recently rated him one of the top three players in the world.

Definitely a place opened up in the outside backs with Sevu's injury. It will be very interesting to see how Fozzie shapes his backs, with half a dozen guys - Beaudy, DMac, Jordie, Will, Havili, Stevenson - all possibilities to play fullback.
