2012 the Chiefs won super rugby

2013 @Nepia switched allegiance to the Chiefs

2013 fucking taranaki switch to the Chiefs

Since 2013 what have we won? Nothing
And we play in the shithole called NP and we lose to a terrible side in Qld

Taranaki is where football teams (and Nepia) goes to die

I love it that the splitters at Taranaki are the only province (I think) that have never been part of a SR title. Long may it continue

Yes lots of foot slips in the match. Was quite costly for Chiefs. I doubt that Dmac changed his sprigs so more likely the pitch was more the issue.

Totally agree with the extra pressure going down the chain from delayed clearances. I kept thinking when is Cortez going to get his hands on the ball and distribute. He did not play badly but I think was the reason the attack could not flow. Our cleaning out at ruck was not as good as usual and will have contributed. And our most effective cleaner in Finau was sent to backfield too.

@Bovidae Thought Williams made a bloody good job to be honest.
Anyway just got back from New Plymouth and going to game etc, and didn't think it was that bad at all. A bit of a messy game, but reminder why I love sport, there no guaranteed winners.
At Park I had feeling in first half Reds were just hanging on, and the Chiefs were a bit clumsy and not accurate with breakdown work or ball retention, and as second half went further you could see Reds starting to really believe, and just knocked everyone with a Chiefs jersey over, You could feel whole momentum change.
One thing I would add I think someone needs to have a word to DMac about studs or boots he wears, made a beautiful break, could see everything opening up in front, and then slipped over, that rugby 1-2-3 making sure you got right sprigs for ground, I have noticed him do it a few times this year.

Could he still have a muscle imbalance from a previous injury?

Could we be mate, never thought of that.

He wasn't the only player to slip over - both Narawa and Finau lost their feet during crucial moments too when trying to change direction. I wonder if the turf was a bit loose?

Well it artificial so not usual, could of been slippery, but think right boots saves a lot of it.

Was interesting to read Force coach Cron criticise some of his players for wearing the wrong sprigs last week in dewy Christchurch.

The Yarrow Stadium field is way below the quality of FMG Stadium Waikato. I don't remember players slipping over in the Drua game and that was played in heavy rain.

Don't know why. It's got artificial mixed with grass, and haven't noticed the Naki boys slipping over when playing there. DMac actually has slipped a bit this year, and noticed other night he only got real short moulded studs on his boots.

There’s a lot of slipping going on in games at the moment. Grounds are getting skiddier as the season changes and players haven’t adjusted.
Donk almost seemed relieved after the loss. Probably because it is easier to get players to listen now.

It’s a strange round when DMac has his worst game of the season but neither BB or RM look much better.

@Crucial It just gives me the
blind screaming heebie jeebies to think of any of those three running the cutter against France or Ireland in a tight match where the stakes are all or nothing. Let's hope they all find a rich vein of form by then.

@Dan54 A different time of the year to NPC, and not all games are played at night. It is noticeable that there is a heavy dew on the ground now, and grass length/quality will also be a factor. As you say, most backs probably use boots with moulded studs whereas the forwards don't.

Of course it diiferent time of year etc, my point is that players should be changing boots to suit conditions. Not sure if too many do, especially in backs? Just a small thing I know but something I thought that would be looked at.

Another thing came to mind while at the game on Friday, I think Chiefs missed Sam Cane, or a real specialised 7, McReight was pretty good as game wore on, and perhaps Chiefs were missing someone to counter him?

Agreed there. Lost it at the breakdown I felt with imprecision causing delayed clearance for Chiefs while Reds fared better than they should have. Good wake up call. MSR and Vaai went well I thought. Finau great. But the overall pack impact was weakest of the season in my view. Aidan Ross was missed too for his all round presence.

    @Dan54 just on this above.

It is quite possible that there is a conscious decision to risk a slip because of other benefits eg maneuverability and kicking. Goal kicking especially can be very different in longer sprigs depending on you approach to the ball.
Did look to be a misread on what was needed from not only DMac but Narawa and Stevenson as well. Combination of boots, dew and mixed turf.
They would have had a captains run and decided on their boots. Got the decision wrong.

Yes. I can't say he looked that good in the club game I watched either (when ALB played 40 mins).
