Yep.

So all we can do is learn from it, make our systems better, call out the fuckwit factor and do our best to prevent it ever happening again.

Had a good night down the pub with some club stalwarts. Planning underway. Season 2017 is going to kick arse.
-

Gym this very morning, trying to blow a few red wine cobwebs out of the system ;)

Squats: 5 x 5 x 110kg - real effort required to finish these. First set is always tough, but middle sets were OK. Will stick on this for next session and concentrate on form

Military: 5 x 5 x 48kg - again, last set was real effort. Had to bend the back for that

Deadlifts: 1 x 5 x 145kg - grunt!

Chins: 1 set of 5 followed by a few variations

So, added weight to all lifts. Need to work on a little bit of form with each one so those numbers will probably stay where they are this week.
-

Get a kettlebell or a heavy dumbbell - hold that up in front rack position (goblet squat) and sit into a squat. Use a heavy enough weight so it lets you sit into as deep a squat as possible. First set just hold it for 20-30sec then start moving about a bit in the second/third sets. It works a treat imo. The weight forces you to straighten your torso and get into a good position ahead of full blown squats.

Note - I'd suggest that after a minimum of 10min stretching and rolling out legs - gotta get things firing before you start putting the weight on bro!
-

what type of warmup are you doing for the squats nick? could have something to do with the first set being tougher?

Zero. I stretch out the back in a deep squat, while holding the bar in my fingertips, and that stretches the calves as well. Might do that for a minute.

Most of my sessions are first thing in the morning and are a 15 minute drive away. I get about 45 minutes to do weights before I have to drive home and get ready for work. As a result I've been doing fuck all in the way of stretching and mobility before workouts.
-

It's me saying it so I know the temptation will be to say fuck off but don't you reckon you should make time for the stretching ?

We're all in our late 30s or in some cases even longer in the tooth so this stuff is more important cos it's easier to get away with not doing it as a youngster.
-

That sounds like my mate who trains during lunchtime - literally works out for about 25-35min as he needs to get to the gym and then get cleaned up.

I'd strongly suggest adding in even 5min for some sort of warm up. Taking your body from bed to under a bar within 20min with no real warm up sounds like an injury waiting to happen. Don't want to see you break yourself dude - plus if you want to get those numbers up then mobility etc are going to be a barrier sooner rather than later.
-

ps you can tell me to fuck off too...

I love durty talk, esp online

-

Doing crunches or skipping or both for 5 minutes is a decent way of warming up and doing something constructive at the same time.

Failing that why don't you find a gym that's closer to you or your work?
-

In all seriousness, warm up dude, do a cirquit of burpees, air squats, lunges and crunches or planks. Basically anything what gets you breathing and makes you use various muscle groups. -

Could you just wake up 5-10mins earlier?

Opening hours of this place means it wouldn't make a difference at this point.

It's kind of a box arrangement owned by a friend of the family who is a PT but the gym is only part of it. There are four trainers who moved around various sites (parks, schools, and the box) running various things like boxing, HIIT, upper or lower body sessions etc.

Most days they have open gym for 1-2 hours in the morning, starting at which is when I go. Monday and Wednesday is open at 7am so that's when I turn up. Home by 8am so I can get to work.

They're looking at extending them.

Friday is 6am but haven't made it there that early yet.
