Australia 17/4. 71 runs ahead. So under a bit of pressure. It will be interesting to see if they can dig themselves out of trouble here.

Australian counter-attack under way. 4s on consecutive balls.

If Pakistan's catching was better, we'd be in deep shit

I’m possibly jinxing him but I’ll point out that Steve Smith is currently second on the list of test averages for all batsmen who’ve scored over 7000 runs at test level. Smith 9467 at 58.43 while Walter Hammond got 7249 at 58.45.

Smith is so damn good, the chances of him failing in Melbourne were ridiculously low.

Marsh gets a sitter dropped early

And falls to a brilliant catch on 96

Same demographics as our blackcaps. We had an all over 30s side about a year ago. Probably a few matches now with that makeup.

Edit. Actually I'm not surprised these 2 teams have aged together. I remember back in the 2011 test series between these 2 teams and being very excited at the upcoming decade for the blackcaps. Then looking at the Aussie team (who were debuting Warner, Starc, Hazelwood, Pattinson) and going, "ah goddammit!".

I think our pace lineup is just that crucial bit order and more beaten up than theirs.

What an anticlimactic end to Rizwan's innings.

    Looked clearly out though

Ridiculous decision by the video umpire to overturn the onfield decision on meagre evidence. Pakistan were robbed there.

@sparky Rubbish. Hot spot showed a mark on his glove, as did snicko and the general footage.

@KiwiMurph Hit his arm. They took a long time looking at that and nothing clearly suggested glove.
