Caught Avatar and Sherlock Holmes on a flight to and from Perth.<br />
<br />
Avatar was very good ... good storyline, visually brilliant.<br />
Sherlock Holmes was slow to start, but picked up as it went along. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law were both excellent. -
You also got a bollocking for being immature and focusing on a penis.
<br />
If I remember rightly it was a humorous quip at the end of my post and seized on by the Fanboys in attempt to discredit my post entirely. Fanboys! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -

Umm, nope. I posted quite a lengthy retort, only one line of which focused on your inability to look away from the penis. It was a good film, with a couple of bad notes..<br />

Jesus, the second flood has started in the Kapiti Coast, heavy, heavy rain.... -

Might have to agree to disagree ... -

Hated it. But I had never read the comic (sorry, graphic novel) before seeing the movie.<br />
<br />
Speaking of graphic novels, I saw Kick Ass this weekend. Loved it. Also had not read the comic before seeing the flick. -

It was unlikely Watchmen was ever going to satisfy fans of the comic or audiences who didn't know a thing about it. Unlike most comic books, which are written like storyboards for movies, Alan Moore was drafting deep subtext about the nature of the entire superhero comicbook genre into that story, and that was always going to be difficult translating onto the screen and would've likely resulted in even more confusion and footdragging than the plotline already did. <br />
<br />
FWIW I hardly even noticed the blue penis - and, probably it being blue - I simply didn't care. My short-haired dog had a weiner too, but I accepted that he did and moved on, not bothering to fixate on it.<br />
<br />
(Slinks back to reading his Jack Kirby . . . ) -
finally watched Avatar, on the home theatre...<br />
<br />
Thought it was stunning visually, but thought the story was weak and predictable (and as such, way too long) but in the context of what the movie was, the story was fine as it didnt really try to be some great epic or more than it was. -

I loved the comic and loved the movie. Gonna check out Iron Man 2 tonight. Will let you know -
Holy shit, Slant Magazine gave Human Centipede 3.5/4. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It almost made me want to see it. Almost. -
Unusual to open first in NZ. Is it a holiday weekend in the states next week? They often do big releases on three day weekends to make the opening weekend stat sound better. <br />
<br />
Or they could be avoiding another movie over there.
<br />
<br />
Wow, that's unusual. Normally they big movies open over here a week or so before NZ at least. No holiday here next weekend - mothers day though. Maybe saving it up for that??? That's definitely a movie to take mom to! -
What's up with France and banning movies? Does the government ban them or do they just get blacklisted by the industry? Is Paths to Glory still banned in France?<br />
<br />
<br />
You know, political crap.<br />
<br />
De Gaulle was a great president but he tended to run France like a Battalion and he had no sense of humour when it came to people gas lighting the French military. Pompidou was more relaxed but he died halfway through his term. Giscard was (still is) a major league asshole who perpetuated the whole "rule France like it's the Catholic church" crap. <br />
<br />
Then Mitterand came to power and everything changed. Pirate radios were legalised, movies unbanned, political comedy shows appearing on TV etc... <br />
<br />
Chirac followed in Mitterand's footsteps and let eveybody do what they wanted.<br />
<br />
Then there's Sarkozy. A guy who has the sense of humour of a North Korean border official and a fuse the size of a gnat. I'm sure he'd like France to go back to the good old "shut the fuck up" days but there's sod all he can do about it. Although, he sure tries. -
The Men Who Stare at Goats; George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey, Robert Patrick<br />
<br />
Started off well, black comedy but kinda meandered to nothing. <br />
<br />
A special branch of the US Military that deals with the paranormal and trained these guys to be 'jedi warriors' <br />
<br />
Expected alot more with the cast listing too! <br />
<br />
5.9/10
