    Pretty sure Mehrts was mom on debut against Canada in 95. Scored 28 points then a world record

    Michael Jones springs to mind. Usually the match database on all blacks.com shows MOTM doesn't it?

    Do they even award that officially? I can't for the life of me remember any official ones done so far this year.

    Yeah isn't it just something for TV commentators to do at the end of a game? It really doesn't mean much without some consistent process. Might as well give it to the "people" instead.

    You are right. I don't think MOTM goes along with the AB ethos these days.

    Meanwhile the Wallabies hand out "participation awards" such as Most annoying face-pull.

    So Mark Carter actually got a MOM but people still go on about him like he was the worst AB of all time ?

    IIRC it was the game where the overwhelming tactic was for Carter to use speed to shut down Noddy Lynagh and it worked. All he had to do (and he did it well) was to race off every scrum and line out straight at Noddy.

    @Crucial

    Fair enough but he is one of the most maligned ABs I can think of which seems harsh all things considered. I guess it was the whole anti Auckland thing which became an anti Cantab thing but Sam Broomhall doesn't get anywhere near as much shit and he never won MOM.

    I think it was because there was a massive push from AK fans to see Carter in the AB during a tie when there were other candidates and Carter won out.
    Remember that Iceman was still playing then and Carter had hard time living up to that.

    Well yeah he was no MJ but it's not like more recent AB 7's have been given as much shit for not being as good as McCaw ( Masoe, Holah, Braid.....)

    Actually Braid has.

    @Crucial None of the Akld fans I knew at that time were pushing for Carter - but then again I didn't know John Hart then.

    I think it was less he got in ahead of Jones (which he didn't - it was the Suinday test thing) but that he got in ahead of Henderson and (maybe?) Duane Monkley.

    So he was disliked for having taken a shirt that Henderson had "earned"
