I think if the situation is dire enough for Richard Buckman to be getting mentioned, Bateman is a real chance. Fuck all difference between picking him and picking SBW on yours in 2010 and 2014.

Someone unlikely to panic under pressure.

That rules out Tamnivalu for me. The combination of him and Fekitoa against Henshaw and Payne gives me nightmares.

ALB has to start, I suppose they'll go with Fekitoa, but I'd be even inclined to go directly to Ioane or draft in Buckman.

Would be lovely to have Ngatai available.

I don't think we will see Ioane playing centre. Well I hope not....

I'd play Bender at centre before him and have Dagg at fullback and Ioane on the wing.

With ALB and Fekitoa fit, I'd just play them for the remaining three tests.

    @ACT-Crusader

Yeah, as much as I don't like Smith at 13 (because he's a class 15/14), he has a rugby brain, and I could definitely live with ALB/Smith.

    1. ALB
    2. Fekitoa

    Bench: Ioane

    Yep.

ALB provides the Crotty role and whatever combo starts against Italy needs to be the one that starts in Dublin. Those two will be worked hard to get themselves organised.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Cruden at 10 to make this combo work. BB relies on Crotty to do a lot of the organising.

It was reported a few days ago that BBBR and Whitelock were expected to re-join the squad in Rome. Anyone know if that's still the case?

I wouldn't lose my shit if they named Smith in midfield. In fact at one stage this morning after a replacement I thought we should have moved him in there.

Koala on his way home, but Crotty not, so does that mean Crotty is a chance for another game, or was he planning a holiday...

Who's Koala? Have the AB selectors been raping and pillaging the small island of Australia for players now?

The Koala defended about as well as Quade Cooper, so maybe it was payback.

@MN5 my guess is autocorrect knows about Koalas, but not Moalas.

Good point. Moalas are less cuddly than Koalas and very likely to attack with broken glass if provoked.

Moala has had issues with his elbow before hasn't he?

Some pretty rotten luck with injuries for him though, is this his 2nd or 3rd injury after getting a chance with ABs?

@taniwharugby and for someone who isn't a regular feature in the 23, it's even worse because they are the guys that are at most risk of losing their spot in the squad.

According to this article on Stuff:

... big lock Brodie Retallick is set to rejoin them in Italy and centre Seta Tamanivalu has been called up as a midfield reinforcement.

But Retallick will be in Italy to bolster the All Blacks pack and, with the lineout a shambles against Ireland, the Chiefs stalwart could be in line to start in Rome next weekend.

Tamanivalu has been called after George Moala was forced out with an elbow injury, NZ Newswire reported.

Crusaders recruit Tamanivalu, 24, who played for the Barbarians in their 31-31 draw with South Africa in London at the weekend, will join the side ahead of their match against Italy in Rome. He has played three tests.

Moala, who pulled the ligaments off his elbow in the 40-29 loss to Ireland in Chicago, would return to New Zealand.

Second five-eighth Ryan Crotty, who strained his hamstring during the match, would stay with the team and be assessed over the coming weeks in the hope he would be available for the the final test of the tour against France, on November 26.
