Well I got sucked in. Transformers II was my last foray into the wellington boys night out before I pull stumps and head for warmer pastures(or greener) in Tauranga. Me mates thought it would be a good farewell, movie, curry, mass consumption of liquid anything and strip clubs. Because this movie was a steaming pile of dog shit we all lost the will to live and went home after one beer.

Its ok I told the missus i'll need another night out to redeem ourselves but avoid this movie..too long, too much cgi and not enough of megan fox!

Role Models is predictable but funny enough to say "give it a go." Paul Rudd is quite funny, Stiffler is the other main guy and there's some boobies. xzxgood
I saw "land of the lost" starring Will Ferrell. I like Will Ferrell "Anchorman" is classic. But this is a POS. The best bits are in the trailer so don't bother. It should be retitled "Watch this and brain cells will be lost".

I wouldn't rate nearly as high, but would recommend as an enjoyable waste of time, and truthfully, it was better than I anticipated.
I watched This Is England the other day, on the reccomendation of a friend. I thought it was very good, has no big name actors, but all play their parts well.
It's basically the story of 12/13 year old growing up in England in 1983, with Thatcher and the Falklands War as the back drop. He gets involved with a group of teenage skinheads, which then leads to his affiliation with 'Combo', who promotes his white supremacist/ nationalist agenda within the teenagers.

A somewhat depressing coming of age tale thats very well done, uncomfortable viewing at times, but a brilliantly told story, that gives an insight into both the growth of the nationalist movement after the Falklands and the rise of 'thug' culture in Britain.

Released in 2006, its timing was poignant as the issue of British multiculturalism was brought to public attention in the wake of the 7/7 Bomings the previous year.

9/10
I concur. I watched This is England on a flight over to NZ and thought it was excellent. Though I think if you've lived in the UK or at least have a familiarity with British culture, you'd enjoy it a lot more. Can't see it appealing to most Americans for example.

I loved it and thought it really captured the era, the whole skinhead movement and how the UKs evolution toward multiculturalism sparked a rise of nationalism among lower class white youth.

Saw "Public Enemy" this weekend, which is a movie about the Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger. Directed by Michael Mann of Miami Vice fame. Great movie for those who enjoy gangster films. It's gotten very good reviews.

I saw "Public Enemies" yesterday. Pretty good, but I can't say it's any better than the Warren Oates version, which I haven't seen in many years but used to enjoy. I'd rate 7/10, but with some reservations, especially in some of the oddball decisions used for film stock, but that's getting deep into the weeds.

One thing that caught my eye, like "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" (feat. Bobby Orr cameo), was a clip from the movie "Manhattan Melodrama" (1934) starring Clark Gable, William Powell, Myrna Loy and Mickey Rooney. (The movie was playing Chicago's Biograph theatre just before the FBI iced Dillinger.)

In the short clip, the Gable and Powell characters are at a hockey game, presumably Madison Square Gardens, but the clip was too short. (Wikipedia informs me that, "Blackie then arranges the murder of Snow in the bathroom of Madison Square Garden in order to protect Jim.")

I'll have to look for that movie, it might be some of the earliest NHL footage in movies. I can't tell the teams, the clip was too short, but one did look like the Rangers, and the 1933 New York Rangers were the Stanley Cup champions that season (beat the Leafs).

The International is a good flick, just lacked a punchy ending. Might watch it again, had a text message in the middle that took my mind off the story for a bit. 7/10 anyway, so maybe I can find another mark in it...

Inkheart - Adventure/fantasy with Brendan Fraser.

6.5/10 - Fraser reads books/ stories and they come to life (better than Bedtime Stories) but when a character comes to life, someone form the real world gets sucked into the book.

12 Rounds - Action, John Cena (WWE Entertainment)

6/10, B-grade action flick, which was just that, action, simple plot, simple acting, but as long as you dont expect it to be an oscar winner, it is fine.

Inkheart. Is it any good for a 7yo girl who likes Indiana Jones and Goonies type movies? She likes good stuff not fluff(bed time stories went down like a ton'a'bricks).

It seemed to me that all Baron-Cohen was trying to do was out do Borat in terms of how vulgar he could get a movie, he certainly did it. If you want a homo erotic cringe fest then this is your go.
