Back for more!

In addition to clocking a couple of morning walks* I went to the gym last night.
There was some kids class on so I was restricted to the machines.
3 sets of 10 X 255kg leg press which was a nice jump
3 X 10 X 25kg chest press
1 X 45kg lat pulldown then 2 x 55kg
3 sets of hammy curls just for a laugh - no idea what weight as it was an older machine marked 1 thru 10 for each plate.*Running before dawn here at the moment is shit - cold enough to rug up so after 10 minutes you're soaked and in 2 layers. August will be when running starts in earnest.
-
Did some gym recently.
I hate the sled, but I still do it and generally in between sets of something else e.g do chest press then sled 10m up and back. Rest a minute, chest, sled etc
Also the other night I realised I can't count and put 270kg on the leg press for 2 X 10. So for the last set did 300kg X 6. Not bad

Played an Old Boys game at hooker today. Only 25 minute halves but still fucking hurts.
Lineouts 2/2
Tackles 0/2Cheating fluffybunnies brought out their 2nd grade backs to finish us off once we took the lead.
The fact you still play shows you're harder than the rest of us. Respect. You must feel lonely at Greenie conventions though. You'd be the only one who's lifted anything heavier than a latte.

@NTA how much shorter are you today!! Respect bro. Nothing like sticking your head in a scrum to know you are alive!!
If he got any shorter heโd be auditioning for the Hobbit

I'm probably a bit fat round the guts to be called gangly but yeah that is in the workout regime for this week.

So after a week recovering from rugby, I decided to get started again by... playing rugby. Wasn't exactly my choice after someone called in sick, one of the young blokes decided to go chase pussy for the weekend, and another had some kind of other girlfriend issue. Fucking hopeless.
First Grade this time - full 80 minutes at loosehead against a bloke 10 years my junior.
Fucking dished him up, too, with 2 tightheads (but no penalties to us - which were deserved IMHO and I left the ref in no doubt of my thoughts). In fairness my second row is probably the strongest in the comp, and our tight five average age is 39 so there is no trick we don't know. Not that we needed it against pretty much anyone.
Thing is, I might complain about the bruises, and the strains and injuries, but I fucking love playing front row at this level, because most guys on the other team don't know shit. Plus I love the banter out on the field - one young bloke on the other team had his lower leg pinned in a ruck after trying to take our ball, and I decided to land on his hip while clearing him out.
"Ah! My kneee!" said the offending manbun.
"Well don't fucking be there next time" I muttered in his face, smiling nicely.
He took my advice.I didn't even get a chance to make (miss?) tackles as they refused to run near our forwards (nothing to do with me - I've got some big koro types who like contact), but I threw 1 lineout for 100% success and got around the park until I ran out of gas about 50 minutes in. EDIT: after that was a lot of walking. Or jogging if it was a scrum.
Anyway, I'm on 90 caps for the club so I'll probably keep going, but get fit.

@NTA fucking awesome bro. Big props (boom tish) for playing at that level still. I would much rather prop against a young strong fulla than a Wiley old mofo with an evil gleam in his eye! The dark arts are real and fucking painful!
As a young prop I remember the first time I had a tighthead manage to lift me but get the point of his shoulder into my sternum - omg that was a nasty position, made worse by the pushing of my own guys. Swear that dude was cackling away, but good for a beer and a yarn after the match though!
Ahhh my knee... he he he

This nice forum software advises me this thread is quite old, and would I like to start a new one?
Well, I'm quite old, and while I'd like to rewind about 7 years to my younger, fitter self, that shit isn't happening. Still, new thread. Whatever.
So, where to begin? Heart surgery - let's do that. Save a bunch of bullshit and play the footage, Jeeves:
Pretty cool eh? They went in via my groin while I was under - fuck I love general - and I woke up a couple of hours later in compression socks with new hardware I can't even show off.
Basically this thing is designed to close a Patent Formalen Ovale (we in the biz call them a PFO), or a hole between the upper chambers . You all had one at one stage, but 75% of people have theirs close up after birth. The rest generally don't know they've got one unless they have stupid shit go wrong.
In my case, the cardiologists think it is the cause of my migraine/vision shit when I exercise; deoxygenated blood coming into the right chamber for a topup of gas is diverted into the left chamber under pressure, and then goes straight out the gate, into the brain. Vision starts to dim, body thinks "Fuck! Pump harder dickhead!" and the circulation causes the migraine.
I'm a month post-op now so the doc wants me to build up the exercise again. I'm sooooooooo fucking tired tho that it is a struggle to get out of bed.
Throw in work being a right pack of fluffybunnies and I'm in need of endorphins. Walking the next couple of weeks, building up into a gentle run in May.
Funny thing is I lost weight during recovery, so assume it was a bit of reduction in muscle as I was doing the gym thing with the boy before surgery. Back into lifting tin as soon as every bastard settles down on this COVID thing.
-
@voodoo it really is. To think everything used to be open heart mere decades ago, and now smart bastards have figured this out.
Had a follow up with the cardiologist today and all looks good so far.
EDIT: he showed me the ultrasound and you can see where the device is due to the thickening of the flesh where it is growing around the thingo. It was rad.

Lucky you didn't need a multioptipupiloptomy

Been doing some early morning walking, as I tend to wake up around 0600 for completely fucking unknown reasons.
Have put in some light jogging during this and things seem to be improved over the vision/migraine issues BUT early days.
Today the kids were both home from school. The boy had PE for his last session today, and his teacher really phoned it in giving options of 20-30 minute jog OR bike ride OR a circuit of squats/lunges/pushups/situps etc
I gave him the option and he took bike ride, so a gentle 6.6km later we'd clocked 26 minutes @ 15km/h which is pathetic. But the kid isn't that active so its a start.
Gym has closed and payments suspended, so gotta do something.
