mens pursuit team has been disqualified. that is an absolute farking mozza.

Apparently, according to the stuff feed, "They were slated for a bronze medal match against Canada at 10.12pm, but were rubbed out after the judges found the irregularity with one of their bikes."

I dunno why, looked good to me

Dawkins, Webster and Mitchell set a new CG record in the men's team sprint. Will be riding for gold.

that was absolute perfection. what made it even better was watching Aus completely fuck their effort up!

as an aside if you ever happen to be swinging past cambridge you should pop in to see them training - they wind it up behind a motorbike at just under 90kph - which on a 250m track is bloody impressive to watch and one of the cooler things you'll see in sport

    there's basically 3 rules.

    1. tip of seat needs to be minimum 60mm behind a vertical line thru the middle of the bottom bracket.
    2. end of aero bars must be within 800mm of that same centre line
    3. end of aero bars must be 100mm or less than the armrests...

can't really imagine which one it would have been.. something must have moved, which could only really be the seat... but that is super unlikely too

scratching my head a bit cause you get measured before and after.

I guess something must've moved during the race? As it wasn't picked up before the race?

bars were 3mm higher than allowed - sounds like it's broken that 10cm rule i referred to.

I spent an hour or so at the Velodrome in Invercargill in Jan and watched some young guys training. Two things stood out to me: (1) they go much faster than you think, and (2) how steep the track is at each end.

I can only imagine how quick the elite cyclists travel. I've driven past the Avantidrome so often and have thought about stopping in.

they publish their training schedules on the avanti drome site. cafe good and track outside good for kids..
yeh banking pretty steep.. only arsed off once on it.. winding down at nationals after finishing pursuit last year.. next thing i knew i was sliding down on my arse ha. most embarassing.

that is a shocker for an organisation like that.

doesn't explain how it got measured ok pre-race... the exact reason they measure it before and after!

TVNZ is the best advert Sky Sport will ever get.

Ads mid-gymnastic competition, live coverage during the competition break

Yeah, I went onto TVNZ on demand. Toni Street is annoying at the best of times with her fucking inane questions, but for a segment on the cycling, they showed the women's team pursuit qualifier and then moved onto getting some before game commentary for the netball vs Uganda. Plus a whole lot of promo and ads.

As a complete guess on my part this could be something as simple as the position of the axle in the fork dropouts. There is quite likely a regulation so that fork design can't be used to overly change the head angle of the bike geometry.
If you attach a wheel in slightly the wrong spot in the dropout you could tip outside the measurement. It is possible that there was slight movement during the race but that is a result of a mechanics mistake in torque on the axle.
If there is one thing that cyclists of any format know is absolute it is that UCI officials are complete and utter pricks.
I have seen downhill riders DQ'd for not wearing long sleeves when it was written in the race fine print but allowed all weekend during practice and qualification with officials in attendance.

    We're on the medal board!

Silver in the Women's team pursuit. (We did get smashed by 9sec, but the Aussies are reigning world champs on home ground, so no shame.)

nah totally our fault. massive fuckup. failed pre-race measure. 'fixed' didn't get it measured again.. failed after.

2 things - 1 - i didn't think you were allowed on the track until your bike had passed so question mark over the officials.
but 2 - WHY would you not get bike checked again to make sure.

beggars belief that an organisation with that much funding behind it can fuck that up.

but yeh agree with you about the UCI twats - even at a local level they are massive fucktards. I have regular run ins with them. Last one was cause i wore jandals on podium of auckland champs.. guy went nuts, told him to fuck off because there were about 10 people there. WHO GIVES A FUCK!

Two Kiwi boys (Hunter and Perry) make the Men's 50m Butterfly final - good on them. Both finished third in their semi. Don't think they will feature against the Saffers or Aussies, but you never know.

As expected, we gain a silver in the women's team sprint (our first ever). Good ride by them considering Aussies were overwhelming favourites, and they set a new NZ record.

One of the kiwi cycling chicks who just received a medal looked a bit cute.

Silver lining to the aussie medal avalanch? Ch7 don't have time to flog on endlessly about all of them. Not a terrible family interview to be seen.
