Super Rugby form XV (from the NZ franchises)
-
After five weeks of Super Rugby for the NZ teams, what would be your best player for each position ?
Here is mine :- Tough choice as there has been no standout. Lienert Brown by default.
- Codie Taylor
- Another very tough choice. Laulala was the best in the early rounds but is now injured. So Alaalatoa by default.
- Jackson Hemopo (Sam Whitelock not yet in top form)
- Brodie Retallick (yet in great form)
- Liam Squire
- Dillon Junt
- Akira Ioane
- Aaron Smith
- Beauden Barrett
- Ben Lam
- Ngani Laumape
- Jack Goodhue
- Waisake Naholo
- Jordie Barrett
-
@cgrant Agree with that. Retallick is forward of the year and Aaron Smith Back of year at the moment. I do think ALB is playing ok for chiefs and maybe of Laumape even though playing different numbers.
Pleasing to see so many ABs in form as well. -
No way, Hemopo is playing better than Whitelock. Whitelock has just missed (almost) 2 games.
Cane at 7.
At 8, Evans is in better form than A Ioane. Akira has only been good in patches, while Evans has been good in every single game he played thus far.
Crotty has been better than Laumape, in the games he wasn't injured. -

haha the most Crotty statement ever
-
@mariner4life Yes, unfortunately.

-
@stargazer Geez if he's only been good in patches I'd love to see how good he'd be if he's at his best.
-
@african-monkey Yes, me too!

@cgrant Shields and Cane at 6 and 7.
Yes, I can agree with Cane at 7 (though Hunt has been outstanding so far) but not with Shields who was poor in SA. Squire has shown why he is an All Black before his injury.
-
The form props are currently Aidan Ross and Angus TM. Who would think that these third choice props could be so good ? They won't make the AB but who knows with all the injuries. On the loose head, behind Joe Moody, the gap is huge. Crockett has retired, Perry and DLB are exposed in the scrums, Eves blows hot and cold, Manu is not up to the task, Hames is concussed and Hodgman injured.

@cgrant Alaalatoa is in very good form, too. Eligible from about August-September.
Is that likely or will the Wallabies inherit a very good prospect?

Mike Alaalatoa re-signed with the Crusaders a few weeks ago. Under contract until the end of the 2020 SR season. So he won't be eligible for the Wallabies and will be eligible for the ABs later this year.

Poaching tight forwards from Australia feels so very, very wrong

LOL more desperate than me trying to pick up at a music festival.
-
@mariner4life Meh. In two years time, he only got 1 cap when he was at the Tahs. He also played U20s for Samoa, not Australia. And they've poached enough players from us. Time to give one in return.
-

@nta Did you see Pink again?
only if he actually pulled.
-
@mariner4life and I'm here to tell you: drought.

Agreed BUT that was over here. We had fucking Paddy Ryan and Jeremy Tilse apparently blocking his way, so he probably ditched when he realised it was more about the "who you know" than the "what you do".
The Cantabs tend to make something good out of players, no matter where they're from.

Who is the form Nr.8 now : Akira Ioane or Gareth Evans ? The latter was outstanding vs the Chiefs, beating Sam Cane twice behind the scrum. He's got an impressive speed. Can his ability to play 6, 7 and 8 bring him a call in the AB squad ?
Who is the form right wing : Naholo or Mataele ? I would go for the latter who is a perfect Sivivatu's replica.
Who is the form left wing : Lam or Alaimalo ? Both were impressive on Friday night. I would go for the latter because of his higher workrate. -
Smith
Barrett
Ioane
Laumape
Crotty or Goodhue
Smith
BarrettBut as always heaps of choice for the back 3.
-
@billy-tell that's your super rugby form backline?

Nah what I would choose. If you bring in form you have a pretty green backline. For starters Ioane is in the blues midfield but he’s a lock for AB 11.
-
@billy-tell looks good to me. Bench of Perenara, Mounga...ummm...Lam.

I’ll be annoyed if sbw walks straight in. Laumape and Goodhue for form, Crotty is reliable glue and ALB’s form has been steadily improving.
I reckon lam will make the squad if he keeps this up. Won’t be hard to drop players like duffie havili et tamanivalu from the 2017 November tour. I suppose it depends if selectors want to pick nms and Dagg cold.
