I'm one of the 15,000 Chris, but I have to say this version is my favourite despite Emanuel sounding as if he's on his last legs (which he probably was).
That is awesome! You're right - the Flying Dutchman really does sound like it's on the reef.

You've doubtless also dug out a few of those videos from 10+ years later of Rick Danko - weighing about 200kg and barely able to whistle his voice out. Sad ends for those two guys. -

A couple times I've cleaned up Richard's grave marker there will be an empty mickey sitting next to it. I don't know whether to chuck it in the garbage or leave it there.
Speaking of Band members on their last legs, a new documentary just opening:
Something a bit different - John Hanlon "Higher Trails" from NZ in the early '70s. Heavily influenced by John Denver, I suspect. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Was the best known accompaniment to the ski/hang-gliding movie "Off the Edge" which was the biggest thing since sliced bread (or Sleeping Dogs) in NZ movie making at the time. (My parents drove all the way into town to see it!).

Actually, there's some interesting NZ music from around that time if you hunt around the youtube links. Shane Hales "St Paul" - looks like SBW's mini-me. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Simple image "Spinning, Spinning, Spinning" (could have been the Byrds), Fourmyula, Alison Hanlon - even Maria Dallas.

Here's the link to SBW pop star! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Is that Leslie Ash in the tight silver pants? She never could dance. -
Mate, I don't know who that is. What I do know us that is a fucking atrocious video

The Rolling Stones are preparing for another tour. Ordinarily, a really bad idea, but this time I'm intrigued. I probably won't go - but I'm excited for anybody that does.

Three big-time bonuses:

- Mick Taylor is back in the band. It's been 39 years, but he's back. He's the best musician the Stones ever had, and he was there for their best period ('69-74...Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, Western Springs '73). What to do with Ron Wood, though? I can hope he'll go away, but I guess it means three guitarists on stage.

- They're playing arenas, not stadiums.

- I'm reading that Jagger doesn't want to do a new album. Richards is trying to talk him into it, but Jagger seems unconvinced. He's quoted as saying he can tell from these last few tours that when they play new songs the audience's "eyes glaze over" and he can tell they can't wait for it to finish. He recognizes they are a nostalgia act.

Unpacking all of that, I'm hopeful they'll go strong on the Taylor-era and get the horns back into prominence. If they do that, I think they can pull off a really good show. Fingers crossed.
That's a nice mellow tune, NTA.
Is it just me or has there been a return to some pretty decent music in the past five years? Late-80s to mid-2000s seemed like a bit of a musical wasteland to me - I stopped listening to anything new and pretty much hunkered down in the 70s. I still don't listen to much new stuff, but a lot of the time when I click on something new it actually sounds pretty good.

Cue someone telling me James Blake is from the mid-90s - but as far as I'm concerned he's a different colour and pretty good at tennis! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
Quite a few folk trying to get their heads around whether to like these kids or not. Not your average teen band (average age only 16) and playing kick ass R&B. Have just grown up with the music from their parents.

getting knocked from some quarters for their derivative sound but I don't care. I just like their 'rip it up' bluesy style and the songs are great
Interesting call on The Strypes, Crucial.

Personally, I think the 'derivative' tag should be parked while we enjoy the sight and sound of four kids having a riot playing hard RnB. At least they are mixing in their own material too.

Great share btw. -

I've started listening to JJJ which is a station over here run by the ABC as the national youth broadcaster. I stopped listening to it back in the 90s when I just didn't get their vibe, but lately (perhaps due to my lifestyle change is losing weight etc) I find my mind is more open to these things. Its not all gold, but there are some gems - this is from his recent album -

I just got back from seeing Killing Joke tonight. I first saw them 32 years ago, and they stand the test of time, even if Jaz's voice was completely shot. Awesome.
