Here is a lit off the top of my head of metal bands that have been around for yonks, that I didn't know I liked until the last 12-18 months:

    SOAD
    Avenge Sevenfold
    Architects
    A Day to Remember
    Bullet for My Valentine
    Periphery
    The Amity Affliction
    Bring Me the Horizon
    Parkway Drive

For a more recent band, I'm loving Bad Omens right now (still 7 years old!)

I can confidently say that listening to System of a Down is not just a preference but a mandatory experience for anyone who considers themselves a serious music connoisseur. If you haven't heard of them, you're not only missing out, but you're also demonstrating your lack of knowledge and understanding.

Refusing to listen to System of a Down is a clear indication that you're too scared to step outside your comfortable and predictable mainstream bubble.

By not conforming to this strict rule, you're a conformist, mindlessly following the herd and allowing yourself to be spoon-fed.

The beauty of conforming to listening to System of a Down is that it actually sets you apart from the crowd and allows you to be truly original. Ultimately, conforming to listening to System of a Down is not about fitting in with a particular group or clique. It's about standing out as someone who is truly original and discerning

Does anyone else here appreciate grunge music? I mean, it's not just a musical genre, it's a way of life, man. I love grunge because it was at the peak of my life, and it reminds me of all the good times I had back then. It's like a time machine that takes me back to a time when everything was simpler.

And let's face it, the music of today just doesn't have the same soul and grit as grunge did. The 90s were a golden age for alternative music, and grunge was the crown jewel of that era. I mean, how can you not love bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains? They were the real deal, man.

For me, it's important to live in the past and constantly listen to the same music because it's a way to stay connected to a time when everything was more authentic and my life less sad. It's like I'm holding on to a piece of my youth, and I don't want to let it go. Besides, grunge is timeless, it never gets old, and it always hits me in the feels.

And don't even get me started on those boomers who are still stuck in the late sixties. I mean, come on, guys, it's time to catch up to the 90s already. The music was better, the fashion was better, everything was better. The boomers just can't accept that their time has passed, and they're stuck in the past, living in a world that no longer exists.

If grunge is not your thing, I suggest giving Metallica a try.

Now THIS is my my kind of post although of that era I’m triggered you didn’t mention Stone Temple Pilots, Faith no More or Primus

I'm not a boomer and not only do I prefer music from 'before the 90s' I find very little from the 90s that resonates with me (soft spot for a bit of BritPop).
Not stuck in the past either. Listen to a lot of new music and a reasonably wide range.
I guess that if you found that old flannel shirts ("the fashion was better") as fashionable then the music will appeal as well.
Everyone hangs on the the music of their youth. For me it was late 70s, early 80s, mainly Brit.
Natural inquisitiveness took me backwards as joined the dots back to where the influences came from, then forward again as I followed different progression lines.
I assume that "catch up to the 90s" was meant to be ironic?
