Into Abbey Road legends, that session
Pretty sure that the Neumann mic she is singing into is the same one I saw on display at a small Abbey Road exhibition at the Barbican a few years ago.

@Crucial We've just watched the Bacharach tribute documentary on the BBC and he was talking about this recording of the song (which he rated his favourite).
"We ended up doing 30-40 takes which was really hard on the singer. George Martin thought we should stop at the 4th take but, perfectionist that I am, I wanted to carry on. George, inevitably, was right. We used, I think, the 3rd take...."

I think it is in the recent Abbey Rd doc by Mary McCartney that BB said "I just want a bit of magic' and George pointed him back to that earlier take.

Great story. Jimmy Webb says something pretty much the same about recording with George Martin in his memoir - how he seemed to have an infallible sense of what worked and when to stop.
