North Harbour 2018
MEET THE 2018 QBE NORTH HARBOUR SQUAD: DANNY DRAKE
At 23, Danny Drake already has 5 x Championship titles under his belt:
- 2 at Westlake Boys' High School with the 7th and 4th XV's (astoundingly he never played 1st XV)
- 1 with Northcote U21s
- 2 back to back titles with Northcote Prems in 2017 and 2018.
In 2016 He caught the eye of the QBE North Harbour senior coaching staff and has been part of the Harbour Wider Training Group and Pathways Programmes since then, and QBE North Harbour head Coach Tom Coventry said his attitude, willingness to learn and take advice has proven him to be an outstanding example of the North Harbour Pathways Programme.
"The programme is designed to develop and select players from within the province who have earnt the right to wear the jersey. Danny is one of 6 players from this programme selected for this years Mitre 10 Cup squad, the squad which has gone undefeated in their last 12 outings (which included The Blues) so it shows that its working."
Congrats Danny - well deserved and can’t wait to see you getting stuck in at the next level!
Make sure you get your memberships for this season too as its going to be an absolute ripper! Click the below link and get along to support our home grown talent like Danny on the national stage!
(FULL SQUAD NAMED 9th AUGUST)
They did a similar article on Dillon Hunt a few weeks back.
Potential Harbour squad looking pretty reasonable so far

So Hunt wanted to move home after finishing his degree. I wonder if that means he's moving to the Blues?
His 2018 form wasn't as good as the previous couple of years.. but he'd still be useful considering how often Gibson has been breaking
@duluth Would have to be in 2020. He's on contract with the Highlanders for next year.
After several seasons in and around the Auckland wider NPC side, Ben has ventured across the bridge, and his consistent form and leadership in the club scene has meant he has earned several more Super caps for the Blues this year, and progressed from injury replacement to starting in the Blues second row with fellow Harbour man Gerard Cowley-Tuioti. His strength in the lineout and power scrummaging made him a massive asset to Northcote Rugby Club who won the 2018 Championship, and this form will provide valuable impetus for the Harbour scrum in the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup.
Havent seen the offical squad annoucement but full squad appears to be on http://www.harbourrugby.co.nz/profile/ now

A couple of new recruits that hadn't been mentioned before. Loketi Manu moving to the other side of the bridge. James Dargaville from the Brumbies
A hooker and a loosehead prop in this announcement that were not up on the website.
2018 North Harbour squad:
James Parsons (cc)
Matt Duffie (cc)
Departures: Jarrad Hoeata, Connor Collett, Josh Tyrell, Brandon Nansen, Matt Vaega, Adrian Smith, and Ben Volavola
Arrivals: James Dargaville (Brumbies), Dillon Hunt and Ben Nee-Nee
@jk He's signed with Racing 92.
Where's Matt Vaega playing? Should've been in the Blues.
@tim Matt has signed with Mitsubishi Dynaboars in Japan.
I think we look to have a pretty decent side this year
Front row looks decent and locking stocks bolstered. Loosies are still a bit ho hum
9/10 pairing will go well. Mid field just need to hold it together and be able to tackle and get the ball out to the back 3 of Li, Stevenson and Duffie.

The 2018 men's and women's squad announcements are now on the website as well: https://mailchi.mp/harbourrugby/qbe-north-harbour-2018-squad-announcements
Edit: Hmm, doesn't look like that's their website. It's a page they link to on their twitter account. Seems it is an email, but online.

Ireland Under-20 head coach Noel McNamara has begun a three-month professional development placement with New Zealand's North Harbour who kick off their Mitre 10 Cup campaign against Northland on Thursday.
The IRFU High Performance Unit is driving the continuing professional development (CDP) of the IRFU coaches that are deployed across the provinces, with Noel McNamara's placement just one of a host of experiences coordinated and facilitated by the IRFU.
Noel's placement follows similar investment by the IRFU in coach development which saw Ulster defence coach Jared Payne join the Ireland team on tour to Australia this summer, and Ronan O'Gara, Girvan Dempsey and Felix Jones spend time within the Ireland set-up on the 2017 USA and Japan tour.
McNamara will spend three months with North Harbour, coaching under the tutelage of Tom Coventry who is primed to become assistant coach to the Auckland Blues in Super Rugby next season. Once McNamara has completed the Mitre 10 Cup season, he will return to Ireland to continue in his role as Ireland Under-20 head coach and coach of Leinster's Development squad.
David Nucifora, IRFU Performance Director, commented: "The aim of the CPD programme is to expose our best up-and-coming Irish coaches to other rugby models and to take them out of their comfort zone of coaching within the Irish system.
"In Noel's case the experience he will gain from coaching in such a competitive tournament is invaluable, especially considering the calibre of those in the North Harbour coaching group led by Tom, who has Super Rugby coaching experience with the Chiefs and is due to link up with the Blues in the new year."
