Auckland vs Otago

We lacked leadership and organization in the end

There was a moment late in the game when Papali'i was motioning to Umaga to calm down and think (patting his hands towards the ground and then pointing to his head)
Umaga had some nice touches but I think we would have won that game with Plummer was at ten for the entire match

There were plenty of other issues. The defence, apart from Papali'i, was passive compared to the first month.

Ultimately the error rate inside their 22 was the deciding factor.

I hate 6/2 splits. We couldn't afford to lose a centre or a fullback early. So of course that's what happens

  • Yep, on field leadership was missing. But even so, we bombed about five trys and should have still won, so not bad when considering who wasn’t playing.

The pass when over the try line was the worst!

Shows the value of our First choice players at hooker, lock, flanker, first and second five.

Get most of those back and we are back to normal. Scrum also dismantled them at times, that was great to watch. One of them would have marched 20metres if allowed!

  • Might have even missed mr hot and cold Trainor!

  • @kirwan I thought Umaga looked very good back there before having to go to 10. Would like to see him there again.

  • Umaga was impressive but am not a fan of us developing players for other countries. Would much rather see a local player given a chance instead.

  • @akan004 Well half our team represent other countries haha. I don't see the problem personally with foreigners if we don't have players up to standard locally as long as we aren't full of the mike the top 14.

Umaga is better than Trainor and is in the squad therefore he should be picked if it were up to me.

We'll likely get Faiane and Nanai back next week, and hopefully Gibson. Whetton looks like he won't recover in 6 days though.

Lock looks concerning for the Wellington game.

It might be just Lamalu, Olmstead and Lane as the fit locks?

Yep, looked good at 15. Much less so at ten.

Trainors pace is something else though.

  • @duluth We did seem to get very loose on attack from the 20 minute mark onwards.

I think we're starting to really miss Gibson on defense. He's the only forward who can somewhat keep up with Papali'i in defensive workload and leading that fast line speed we had in the earlier games.

The 6/2 bench made no sense for a game like this. Choat didn't even get used, nor did Fukofuka for that matter.

    Looks like that's the case.

I wonder if Fatialofa is coming back at all. He was not meant to be out this long and he wasn't listed as being out for the season.
