@Bones nah they look easy and enjoyable! I grew up with the best German Shepherds ever, hands down the best dog breed, still miss them ðŸ˜
Nothing beats a rough collie.

have a Border Collie now who basically refuses to even be my dog
I have a cat which acts like a dog. Follows me around and comes with me when I go for a walk. Just need to teach him to bark

Labs are good all purpose dogs especially if you do bit outdoors. Will hunt, bush walk, swim.....
That's why you will often see them as a farmer's companion dog.Saying that, I never saw myself having one until an ad popped up last week while I was looking for something else. Such fine looking parents with strong backgrounds and healthy looking pups that I had to have a look and ended up with one.
I am firmly of the belief that a dog's personality and fun to be with comes from the owner and how they treat/train them. Labs can be 'fun' as much as you want. The problem is also with people. They will spoil a puppy then suppress the dog when they grow up.
I'm working hard with this one as I want it to be fun to be around and under control without being cowed. It's the same with most animals to a degree of trainability. Friends of ours take on all sorts of stray animals and just treat them like a dog. It's quite amazing how once they bond with humans they just chill out around you. We can sit in around the outdoor fire for a drink and have deer, horses, goats, steers, alpacas, dogs of all sizes and even a young Chamois just hanging out with us.
The chamois is quite amazing. Some hunters found it only a day or so old on the mountaintops with a badly sprained foot. No one thought it would survive, let alone domesticate but is comes when called, answers to a whistle and will come and sit at your feet while watching TV.
But, back to dogs. I've had 'interesting' ones in the past and the reality is that they are no different as a mate than a 'boring' lab if you treat them well.
-
@Bones I had Labs growing up. One mental one I loved and one lazy fat shit I loved less.
They are like us. Some are all good and some are fluffybunnies that sit there and ignore the ball you're throwing them so they can laze about and fart the grossest farts imaginable.
Never had a toy dog or a little dog but I can't imagine anything worse than a needy cat-sized yappy arsehole you can't throw outside when they get too much. Because they'll eat the wrong thing and die when left to their own devices.

Hey...play the ball not the man.

P.S. Sorry for having a personal preference to all you Mark Leishman's out there.
I'm with you Boney.
Labs are the Butter Chicken of dogs. The Ready Salted, if you prefer a chips analogy. The Hawaiian, for pizza. The Lemon Chicken, if chinese.
Sure - they're fine. Some might even be good. Some might be shite. But typically - a safe, boring, comfortable option. And as such - miles, fucking miles, better than the goddamn little yappy options.
I'm not even including toy dogs in that... fuck toy dogs. -

@Victor-Meldrew is he a ginger cat? Out there question but every ginger cat I've ever known acts like a dog.

Where do you the "Labs are boring" thing comes from?
Bones I suspect

No. Long-haired tabby who looks a bit like a Maine Coon.
But at times he identifies as a Rabbit.....
He'll actually walk with me rather than stop and wait for me to return
-
@Victor-Meldrew aww well he's lovely!!
