His Stallone impression wasn’t up to much

IIRC it was one of the highlights of his set.

I think he stopped being funny the moment Chris Farley died.

Watched Ricky Gervaise’ Armageddon show on Netflix last night. Was it funny? Yes in parts, very funny and the general theme struck a chord, but overall it seemed to be more of an “I need to get this off my chest” thing rather than out and out comedy. I also think Armageddon was an inspired name as it looks like it might be professional suicide, the way things are headed. He gave so many reasons to get cancelled and wasn’t hiding the fact.

Might be your last chance to see him.

Watched the latest specials by Gervais and Chappelle on a recent flight. Sad to say their stuff was a bit... stale? They both had their moments but I wouldn't rate either higher than 5/10.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the whole 'woke people are stupid, oooh watch out I'll get cancelled!' style of comedy to be a bit past it's prime. Not that I necessarily disagree with the general sentiment, but now it just reminds me of a 90s comedian doing bits about airplane food. It's mainly been done.

Then I watched the Shane Gillis special and it's just 25 times better. Felt fresh, funny and clever. 10/10 would recommend.

It’s not just you. Gervais has done the same schtick his whole career. Completely agree. He’s not doing anything new.

I’d need to see recent Chappelle to comment but he’d be hard pressed to do anything as funny as the Rick James/Prince/Charlie Murphy stuff or the N*gga family.

    @barbarian
Agreed. And Chappelle seems to be developing a sort of a God complex.

@MN5 He's done his most recent special at the same place he did Killing Them Softly. Which is still one of the greatest specials ever. Sadly the latest version was not nearly as good.

Further to the Gervais/Chappelle comments. I always thought it was a shame that Eddie Murphy never did follow ups to Raw or Delirious. I now realise this is a good thing.

Comedians have a more limited shelf life than any other entertainment acts I can think of.

I actually enjoyed the first couple of Chappelle specials after his return. But he's got in a rut about woke/trans/LGBT stuff in the last two or three specials and he can't seem to get out of it.

Yeah, his first ones back were probably peak Chappelle and then he decided he'd go to war with a small marginalised community. Even Sticks and Stones where he kicked off his anti trans stuff was actually quite funny. A few of my alphabet people friends started calling themselves alphabet people after it.

I think every big comedian needs to give themselves an uppercut if they even think about saying "the things we're not allowed to say", because they always say them because they can say them. And no fucking comedian ever gets cancelled - Louis CK proves that.

Anyway, I was off work sick last week so watched Gervais and Chappelle.

Chappelle's last special was so fucking bad that this one could only be an improvement. And it was, only slightly, but there was some funny stuff in there. But, when you make a joke about yourself punching down you know you've lost it. Chappelle is just a rich dude now, maybe you can't be funny when you're super wealthy.

I'm not a huge fan of Gervais as a comedian/actor, but I've always liked his takes on religion/atheism, he tended to do what other prominent atheists did but without being a KHunt about it. But, he didn't even get the definition of critical theory correct in this special, and he's too bright to be that ignorant so it had to have been deliberate.

Agree with the posters who rate Shane Gillis' special.

Youtube being Youtube I get lots of Arab (ethnic) comedians in my feed like Mo, Sammy Obied, Nemr Nassar.

There's a couple of really funny female ones as well.
