Molia's defence has always been suspect when he goes high.

Laidlaw has gone for experience and utility value in his selections but they really lack some speed out wide if the veterans are playing. Making the SFs might be as good as it gets for the men.

    Caleb Clarke is in MIQ....

I thought he was traveling reserve?

Yeah that's what I meant. Too much power and pace to be locked away....

@canefan but he didn't show near as much as Warbrick did in the trial matches. I think they have added the right guy.

I think they have too many “veterans” that lack pace I think they’re really going to struggle when they play the likes of the US, SA or even worse Fiji.

@canefan well given the age of some of the players it's highly likely he'll be called upon yet.

What would it take? Tournament ending injury I assume?

I'm assuming the quarter finals are based off of points differential in that the top qualifier based on points differential (assuming there are multiple teams undefeated) draws whichever of the two 3rd pool place quarterfinalist has the worst points differential?

@kiwimurph I tried finding an answer to that same question yesterday, and couldn't find it. Your assumption is probably correct.

I know that it is hard to place trust on commentator knowledge but it has been regularly mentioned that teams are playing as long as possible (even when losing) in a hope to add to their PD.

Fiji v GB at 1230 NZT will be an important game for us as well. Will likely determine our opponent in the quarters.

EDIT: Actually not. I forgot this is a three pool tournament.
If we win our pool we play the second best 3rd place finisher. If we come second we are likely to play SA
If Fiji come second in their pool (ie lose to GB) that lines them up as our Semi opponent
