Congrats to Fiji, the better team deservedly wins gold.

Still a good result for NZ. I didn't dare to hope for a medal, let alone a silver one.

Get the broom out on this NZ Sevens side, most of these players are past it.

All the bad things about NZ came back to haunt them in the final. Webber was shit (no surprise) and Knewstubb missed his tackles. I would have taken a silver medal before the Olympic Games so not too disappointed.

Laidlaw's team for the final highlighted his lack of ambition. Time for a cleanout now with some young blood.

    They controlled that nicely.

Baker's junk stays in his pants.

This is a shit comment. The team won silver and we should be proud of them
They just did not deliver in the final.

Congrats to the NZ 7s boys. Silver is a great achievement and whilst disappointed, feeling pretty proud to get to the big dance.

Yep, all things considered Silver is a lot further into the tournament than we might have got. And significantly further than the more illustriously coached and selected 2016 side too.

    Two things can be true.

    NZ did very well.

The team is at the end of an era.

    @kiwimurph
Indeed. Timmy for one is 34, hardly think we will see him going to the next Olympics at 37.

He was really good the rest of the tournament, so to see him once again shit the bed under pressure was really disappointing.

I donโ€™t begrudge Laidlaw going with some of the faithful to the Olympics, but now will provide an opportunity for a refresh.

Not the Gold we wanted, but Silver is still a good achievement and should be celebrated a wee bit.

Congratulations to the AB 7s squad.

Ugo Monye is a fucken moron.

NZ has won the world 7s series more than anyone so why can they not convert that to the Olympics?

Oh yeah it's the Olympics 7s series is it you dick?

Nature of team sport I guess - the team that finishes second in a final is usually much more gutted than the team that finishes a distant mid-table. Think they'll all be very pleased to be Olympic medalists at the end of it.

The Silver is a great achievement because I thought we wouldn't even get to the final with the squad we had.

All I'm saying is before the next Olympics I think this Sevens side needs an overhaul. But fair point, probably too early to bring that up.

    Well played Fiji.

Monye's a bitter twit who got his backside kicked many times by NZ sides. He's also a terrible pundit.

I didn't know Scottish BBC presenter Hazel Irvine was married to a Kiwi before.

@act-crusader I was referring mainly to Warbrick missing out to Baker in the 12. The former could have provided some power and pace off the bench. No idea what Baker adds to the team.

Was that the clown commentating? He should get a medal for the achievement of being worse than TJ.
