Does this mean we will not see any criticism by sky employees of anything rugby unless it has been run past the NZRFU from now own?
Imagine Justin Marshall not being allowed to disagree with any refereeing decision he disagrees with!

Taking a stake is interesting. NZR now has a vested interest in the succees of sky so it seems highly unlikely that anyone else ever gets the rights.

I hope that they based the value of that stake on sky's value after the cricket example!

I wonder if this is a first step towards NZR producing the games themselves and selling the streaming product directly a la the NFL.

Yeah, I hope they offer streaming too. I prefer the Spark delivery to what Sky currently offers.

A lot more than SANZAAR matches:

The broadcast rights include exclusive coverage of all Investec Rugby Championship, Steinlager Series, Investec Super Rugby, Mitre 10 Cup and all New Zealand’s other domestic competitions, including women’s competitions like the Farah Palmer Cup.

                  Here's the full NZR announcement:

New Zealand Rugby and Sky announce revolutionary broadcast agreement

New Zealand Rugby and Sky announce revolutionary broadcast agreement

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) and Sky have agreed a revolutionary new broadcast deal that will see Sky deepen its investment in all levels of rugby and NZR become a shareholder in Sky.

@Kirwan hasnt NZR been exploring some of the streaming options over the past couple of years anyway, so likely they have some reasons for this option and Sky on board with a way forward?

Dont think this is a good sign for Spark, maybe the RWC was a testing ground for NZR and given the performance issues Spark have had confirmed where NZR wanted to go.

Great news. Exact figures not known justyet, but Steve Tew seemed very happy indeed. Big money involved. That'll keep the competitions going for a few more years and the best players mostly in New Zealand.

I’d there anything to be said for turning the RC into a SH 6N?

NZ, SA, Aust, Arg, Japan, Fiji (or a pacific mix side)?

That gives 5 games, add in 2 bledisloe and you’re still at 7 games.

Japan needs to come into the mix ASAP, not sure about a 6th team

Add Japan and have Tonga/Fiji/Samoa playoff for the final spot. Get some variety there too

Interesting comment about the bidding for cricket in the article.

Does that mean we will keep the status quo with the ITM cup?

I'd say so. The deal is the same terms as the previous. Interesting that NZRFU have a stake in Sky TV now. They might want to sell those while it's still worth something!!!
