@voodoo better get your car keys mate
I'm all set to drive to AKL already. Just want to know the AKL-SYD leg is still good.
50mins and counting on hold.
Took me 2 hours last time. Hang on
I got answered in 1hr 38 bro
Amateur...
and.....? Is your flight good to go???
Yep, Akl-Sydney confirmed. I got the lady to stay on the line until I received the updated itinerary!
Also, I woke up this am and checked the gov website as always, and look at this little titbit they have added:
Happy days! Now I just need to make sure I dont sleep through the 4.30am alarm on Thursday!

So what's the plan? Staying close to Auckland the night before?

@Hooroo drive to Hamilton tomorrow. Leave my car with a mate to either sell for me or hold onto until I can ship it home. Stay in the crummiest motel I can find. Rent another car to drive to Akl early Thursday morning - flight is at 9.15am so want to be on the road early to beat commuter traffic and police roadblock delays

Sweet. Sounds like a plan!! Good luck mate, it's been a long time for you!
Will try and get tips to you for when you are in quarantine in Sydney!

You could stay in a crummy hotel in Auckland!

Yeah, you are. You certainly can't stay in a AKL hotel.

Correct, staying in a crummy Waikato motel is as close as you can get. Assuming they are still doing the 'arrive 2-3 hours before the flight due to Covid' for international flights, can't see you having much trouble with traffic if you head off at 5am or so.
They have reworded the website a bit to make it clear that you can't just drive to Auckland to catch a domestic flight for a holiday, the flight has to be for one of the other reasons (in our case it was going home).

My eldest just advised his connecting flight from Auckland to Whangarei has been cancelled I did tell him to check last week) assume he can just rent a car from Auckland and drive up here?
-
fark, so now his flights have all been cancelled completely!
Woulda thought controlling passengers going from one plane to another in Auckland would be easier to manage when none are to enter/leave the airport?

Tuakau Hotel is another option just on the Waikato side of the border. Won some awards after its makeover so not too crummy. The town itself I can't sell too much though.
I thought they had put the checkpoint at the bridge?

They moved them.

No, No, No. I have had turkey bacon (because Muslims aren't into pork). It really does have to be pig, nothing else works.
