For those interested in the politics of this, have a read. I found it interesting as I do have a real empathy for people in these situations.
What sets me off though Is this:
Page also used the interview to criticise moves by some US states banning transgender athletes from competing in girls sports teams.
"If you're not gonna allow trans kids to play sports, children will die," Page said. "And it really is that simple."It really isnt that simple. And the more this keeps getting trotted out, the more divide you will face.

@majorrage hyperbolic emotive nonsense
-
The whole trans debate is emotive nonsense.
Claiming trans women have no advantage over biological women - completely at odds with reality but they make the "emotional" argument that you are denying their right to live as their chosen identity. Puberty plus increased testosterone = massive physical advantages for the rest of your life, regardless of any blockers you may take later in life.
Saying trans youth are being denied health care - absolute nonsense, they get the same healthcare as everyone else. Stopping children from having life changing treatment such as puberty blockers or surgery is what a sensible adult would do. It's actually heartbreaking reading stories of people that have ruined their bodies/are now infertile after being encouraged to "transition" when they were in their teens. I hope there's some big lawsuits and these ideologues get held to account for that shit.
Claiming biological sex is actually a spectrum instead of a binary - again absolute nonsense, and pointing at anomalies like someone that is hermaphrodite is just evil, and I mean that. Those people have a hard enough time as it is without being pulled into the trans debate, seriously fuck anyone that does that. Male = small gamete, female = large gamete. Binary, end of story.
I have sympathy for people with gender dysphoria, I really do, mental illness is a difficult thing to deal with as there is still very little understanding from a scientific and healthcare point of view. The sooner these cultist ideologues get pushed aside the better, people suffering gender dysphoria need both understanding and professional help. This modern day trans movement does the absolute opposite.

Prefer the bus myself. Oh wait, trans.

@no-quarter this is why I find it so interesting. It’s seems the feelings of 1-2% of are greater than the safety of 50%.
Since when did physical health pale in comparison to mental.

No one's ever died of physical injuries, duh!

It can't be that high a number.
Just ask yourself how many people do you know, and how many are even gay, let alone how many are trans.

Not sure that reasoning quite stands up. Go ask that gay/trans person you know and ask them what the percentage of gay/trans people they know is.

I know there is a yawning gap in the logic. But how many can identify one trans person in the many thousands that you are acquainted with?
If you have kids (Not sure you have yet @Bones ) how many kids have they had interactions with, and how many of those kids are going through dysphoria?
At one in 50 of the population it should be much more visible, even if your usual interactions are not ed likely to be biased towards a similarity with yourself.
Amongst kids, especially in this day and age, where it's less likely that "different" kids are lmarginalised nowadays, I look around Me Boo Jr's peer group and am unaware of any suffering dysohoria.
Again, you'd have to balance for the skewing caused by demographics of the parents, and our conservative white middle class professional expectations, and subsequent social cobstructs imposed upon our children...
Just don't see how the number can be so high.

@booboo well I'm probably not a good person to discuss with then, as I used to work for Welly city. My boss left as Steve one day and came back as Stephanie, put it that way.
Maybe you're a good person to discuss with?

And Katlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce) has come out against trans athletes competing in women’s sports. Will be interesting to see how they try and accuse an actual trans person of being transphobic.
I do find it utterly ridiculous that people claim that this is some kind of life and death issue. If not being able to unfairly compete in a certain sport will drive you to suicide (something I believe to be complete crap) then maybe that’s the problem that needs to be addressed not everyone else having to conform to this idiocy.

Sorry, you have wooshed me again.
My point being, without any irony, that your interactions with trans people are infinitely greater than mine, i.e., mine are zero, and yours are at least one, and sounds like you may have further experience, and therefore, you'd be a better person to discuss the number of people in society suffering from dysphoria, as in my experience and observation it seems extremely rare.
I admit my upbringing, career and social circle is likely to influence who I interact with.

Actual gender dysphoria is extremely rare. What is becoming more common is kids being told that if they don't adhere to very strict gender stereotypes they must be trans. Which is just an absolutely despicable thing to be telling a child.
