Politics or Sports - mods move as you see fit

World rugby is running a forum this week in London to consult with 'experts' as to which direction they will take on the issue. They had been following olympic guidelines which currently allow XY chromosome folk to compete in a previously exclusively XX chromosome competition, this is being reviewed by the IOC but last I heard it was in the 'too hard' basket or more likely the 'not-worth-the-twitter-outcry basket'.

Transgender women in rugby 'do not pose danger to other players', says trans man

Womens' rights groups say transgender women lowering testosterone levels does not go far enough, including in contact sports.

IOC unable to agree on guidelines for transgender athletes

IOC unable to agree on guidelines for transgender athletes

They’d been expected to recommend halving the permitted testosterone levels

I would assume 99.99% of rugby fans will be on the same page on what the ruling should be...but who knows if they actually have the 'balls' to make the obvious call.

Hope they go for " all you need to do is identify as a woman and you're in".

Might be the quickest way to purge this nonsense once and for all

Unlike Handball, AFL or Weight-lifting, people will get badly hurt pretty quickly if ex-men are allowed to play rugby.

Fallon Fox got to break people's heads, but at least those people were actual fighters. And it was all over in 6 bouts, before she could repeat that too often.

I think they should just change the grades. It should be Open and XY. Not "womens" rugby, but "XY Rugby". It's not pretty, but it makes it clear who gets to enter and who doesn't.

    Just no.

People need to realise that not everyone can play the sport they like at the grade they want forever. For some people they have to stop because of injury, others for family or work reasons. For others, maybe it's because of a sex change. The world is becoming very accommodating for trans people, but the line has to be drawn.

I don't see it as unreasonable that if you choose to live as a different sex, that you don't always get 100% of the rights of that sex. Sometimes you can't piss in their toilet standing up, and sometimes you can't cut an opposing player in half with a huge shot below the tits.

The sex that produces the larger gametes needs its own protected category. Have one for them and one 'open' category for everyone else.

You don't need to consult experts on a blindingly obvious topic. Just can't believe this is even on the table for discussion.

This is why people hate 'experts' . When it comes to something vaguely political they turn out to be rabid activists or gutless money grubbers.

I bought up the Hannah Mouncey situation with a work colleague a while back, he had heard an interview with 'experts' on the radio. They confirmed that Hannah did not have an unfair advantage over biological women. All it took from me was a 2 minute video of Hannah training to undo all those 'expert' qualifications.

Its a disgrace that the Olympics haven't addressed this. Coronavirus might just be a blessing potentially delaying that embarrassment and maybe resetting some folks priorities in life.

Pretty quick way to end woman’s rugby letting M to F Trans players in. Would have a similar impact to Lomu playing U16 rugby.

Born December 31? no flexibility you must play ‘up’ an age group.

Born XY? Well let’s not be hasty about this.

Grizzly Bear Shatters All Pro Wrestling Records After Identifying As Human

STAMFORD, CT—The pro wrestling world was rocked last week when a new challenger arrived on the WWE circuit weighing in at 890 pounds, possessing 10-inch claws, and the strength to crush bones into gelatin. “He calls himself ‘the Grizzly’ and he is unlike any other wrestler...

This woman is brilliant when it comes to the science around biological sex and the topic of transgender women in sports. She is a genuine expert as opposed to an activist, so great to see she has been involved in the process.

So glad to see Ross Tucker there - he seems really on the ball on a lot of issues around sports science.

Oh, and the walrus called him a nobody and abuses him on Twitter.

@Bones Have Women's (XY) Rugby and then Open Rugby. Trans Gender or Third Gender people can compete in Open Rugby alongside Men. Non-discriminatory and maintains safety.

That's one option but I would prefer three types. Men. Women. Trans folk.

Then if they can get at least two teams going they can play.

I agree - safest way forward for women, trans and white cis rugby playing males
