I've got our three quicks as Boult, Henry and Ferg. They were the reason we did so well at the CWC, I'd be loathe to cast any of them aside now. Jamieson is really battling Ferg for the 1st change spot - Ferg is a proven performer with a great record, I'd prefer he starts the first game.
What's Henry's record in Australia? I'm normally a fan, but watching him bowl over there over the holidays put me off him, in those conditions.

FergusonAnd in all seriousness I'd probably open the bowling with CDG and Boult in this team. My biggest worry is whether the SCG is what it used to be in terms of assisting the slow bowlers. But I think the selectors think it is, or why take two spinners for three games with two at the same venue, given Santner is an absolute lock-down in the shorter formats. So if you're picking two spinners but want three specialist pace bowlers you either need to ditch a batsman (Latham goes, everyone moves up a slot and another seamer comes in) or ditch Neesh or CDG.

@shark I'm not really expecting them to play two spinners.
I think in a squad of 15 they can afford a spare spinner (as well as a spare seamer, allrounder and keeper/batsman - e.g. Sodhi, Southee, Jamieson and Blundell).
Fair bit of flexibility in the squad and a bit of a stretch to say Jamieson could play as an allrounder - but, if Neesham or CdG was injured he'd doubtless be considered (assuming he's not immediately in as a seamer). (My example has Matt Henry replacing Sodhi in your team).

@Chris-B You make it sound like a lengthy tour. It's three games in a week, 3.5 hours away (add a couple of hours to Hobart I guess). Makes sense to have a balance in your 'spares', for sure, but one batsman covering five and five specialist steamers covering three spots is sensible. Sodhi providing cover for Santner though? Doesn't ring as true for mine.

So, SA have just wrapped up a 3-0 drubbing of Australia in their ODI series in SA. Now the Aussies have a long flight home and face a few questions re their squad make up before playing us on Friday. The whitewash could be the worst thing for us if it means they come out firing, or they may be a little tired and in some disarray. Australia haven't really settled on a top XI in ODI cricket and it's been ages since we've seen any consistency in their selections. Across their game they seem to have all the ingredients but can't seem to bake them together into a single delicious cake.
Warner, Finch and Smith all struggled in this series (Warner especially seems to now exhibit a clear weakness to right arm around the wicket pace bowling if it can be moved away) but Laubuschagne hit a maiden ODI ton last night on pretty much his home deck, in front of 50 family members and with his name actually being pronounced correctly for once by the SA commentators. He dined out on our bowling in the tests so this could be ominous.
But their form in general, the make up of their middle order and bowling attack is all a little up in the air. Hopefully the collective form slump from their top three continues.

I guess we'll see - but, I'm not convinced Sydney offers enough to the spinners to warrant us playing two of them.
Well, maybe if we're undone by spin in the first game.

Also, two physical observations of a player in each squad. South Africa's Klasen looks like a sightly buff Martin Guptill, looks like Guppy in the face under a cap and even moves a little Iike him in the field, while D'Arcy Short has fashioned his look into a kiddy fiddling Hitler, minus the moustache.

I think it's likely enough that we want to have both spinners on hand just in case we want to go that way on game day. I don't think we take two spinners unless we think there's a chance we'll want to play both of them.
