I read earlier today that there was going to be a full enquiry into the practices etc of the Minnesota Police. Looking for institutionalised racism, training etc.
Maybe I misread? Why bother with a full enquiry? It's just window-dressing - we all know the outcome Biden is determined to get.
Why this attitude? Why not have an enquiry? Why not seek to improve training, identify areas of weakness, try to be better? Why not root out any areas of bias or weakness?
An independent enquiry - absolutely. But bearing in mind his and other Democrats pronouncements on the trial before a verdict was reached, the idea of Biden setting up an "independent" enquiry is highly questionable.
Claiming Biden is contriving some outcome because he wants to be woke is no better than the rabid lefties bitching about and inflating every single thing Don did.
Disagree. Judging him on his actions and comments, Biden is no better than Trump and he'd no more accept the result of an enquiry which didn't fit his agenda than Trump would.
Well that's a reach. You've judged him ahead of any evidence. Unless you can point me to Biden not accepting the results of a judicial enquiry?

I said it was highly questionable. Which based on his actions and statements seems pretty reasonable to me.
This is a bloke who brings into his cabinet people who believe black kids being taught by white teachers is "spirit murder", supports the idea of discriminating against non-black people, and whose respect for judicial process extends to pre-judging Chauvin's trial and saying nothing when fellow Democrats call for street protests if Chauvin wasn't found guilty.
If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

From what I read the enquire isn’t to simply say yes or no and point the finger then leave the department to try and fix.
Currently we have situations where police themselves are angry and confused because they think they are following training and directives. They don’t get told to shoot black people more than white.
What a detailed enquire may do is find where the institution either creates or supports views that enable these poor results.
This is meant to be an “independent “ piece of work in that it is independent from the PD itself and it hasn’t been given a pre-determination. -
The movement swwma to be in a state of confusion following the latest cop shooting of a black person.
While it's obviously a result of institutionalised fascism and hatred (ask LeBron James) said deceased perpetrator was quite literally in the act of swinging a knife at another person.
So instead of being hailed for saving a person's life, cop is being vilified for being a racialist murderiser.

Well, an enquiry into the PD by BLM would also be independent from the PD itself. And we could be quite sure the outcome wouldn't be pre-determined....
Biden and the Democrats have invested into the BLM movement big-time, seeing big electoral advantage in doing so. As Biden himself said: "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black"
The idea of Biden setting up an enquiry which might not give the outcome he wants is about as credible as Trump setting up an enquiry into locker-room talk.

Yep, they are all politicians in the end.
What I don't get is the shooting down of any attempt to make things better. Of course politicians do things that they thing may be a gain for them, that's how it works whether it be BLM or taxes or housing policies.
Sometimes however those political aims are in line with what society wants though and I'm pretty sure that people want to try and make this situation better.
If the political aims help that and are the only way then fair go IMO.Some might disagree with those aims but as you said above Biden planted his stake in the ground and was supported at the polling booth both in the fucked up system and the popular vote. He therefore gets the right to follow through.

That pre-supposes Biden's aim is to make things better and is unique among politicians in not wanting to skew an enquiry for electoral advantage. Don't buy it.

Yep. What Biden is probably doing with his "Independent" Inquiry. Remember, this is a bloke who hoped for a guilty verdict before the jury delivered and shrugs his shoulders when his Democrat colleagues threaten street protests if a jury doesn't give the right result.
Not even Trump had that much contempt for judicial process.

You really do have to admire these people's ability to get money out of people by pretending to be Marxist and virtuous, don't you?
A Black Lives Matter co-founder has resigned from her role as executive director amid controversy over her $3m property portfolio. Patrisse Cullors, who founded the racial justice movement in 2013, is a self-described “Marxist” but faced criticism after it was reported last month that she owns four properties, including a $1.4m house in Malibu and a ranch in Georgia. The 37-year-old says she was the victim of “right-wing attacks that tried to discredit my character,” and that her resignation had long been planned because she has a new book and television deal. “I don’t operate off of what the right thinks about me,” she added as she denied that finances had any relation to her resignation. BLM said she (Patrisse Cullors) had "received a total of $120,000 since the organisation's inception” following the 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida. This was for duties such as serving as spokesperson and engaging in political education work.

@victor-meldrew totally agree, what a spectacularly successful heist.
Stir up controversy, on a cycle coinciding with the election cycle, get courted by the most powerful politicians and corporations, frame the slogan using ambiguous yet undeniable wording, skim from the coffers, sign up the houses in your own name and then bail asap, leaving the plebs who donated while hearing the cheers of "job well done" as you ride off into the sunset of "financially secure for life".Oh, and no discernible improvement in black lives during the entire 8 years.
Brilliant!

Don’t forget the recurring revenue of the book, which I’m sure will be added to the reading list of most college courses, and the obligatory Oprah Special

Can only read the first couple of paras (paywall) so so if I'm missing context so be it. Seemingly sums up the madness.
I see Titania has added it to her list.

Inevitable, I guess.
A white British influencer and singer has defended "identifying as Korean" after having what they have described as "racial transitional surgery".
Oli London, who also recently came out as non-binary and uses the pronouns they and them, released a video on YouTube explaining why they have undergone plastic surgery 18 times to look like BTS singer Park Ji-min, or Jimin.

They/them/“their” decision.

I find my self wondering whether this person has some deep seated mental issues or is just a completely narcissistic person, ignorant of the damage that is being they re doing to themselves.
