The TAB market is pretty confident in the Chiefs
Chiefs 1.46
Highlanders 2.55 -

B. This is a better opening post than just the refs names. -
@Duluth its not unreasonable, we only just scrapped past at home and we've had a few injuries since then

It is unreasonable on Chiefs form since

Edited to add these quotes from the article:
Playmaker Josh Ioane is set to make his first appearance in Super Rugby Aotearoa after a frustrating groin injury, while tough flanker Dillon Hunt appears to have recovered from the eye injury he suffered against the Hurricanes last weekend
.
However, the news isn't as good for halfback Kayne Hammington, who fractured a hand in the closing stages of the Hurricanes loss and will miss the rest of the competition, while midfielder/wing Ngatungane Punivai is likely to miss a second game due to concussion.
I'm sorry for Hammington, but I'm happy that Fakatava may finally get some game time!
-
@Stargazer said in Chiefs v Highlanders:
that IS some good news!, im sure Ioane will take a while to get his eye in but between him and hunt we might be able to have some sort of attack
-
@Kiwiwomble I've added some quotes to my previous posts. Hammington is out for the season.

yeah, i actually like Hammington, think he's been a worthy understudy to Smith but ive heard alot about Fakatava so that will be interesting to see him get a couple of game in a row
-
@Kiwiwomble Fakatava is still very green at SR level, but he's a big talent. Has had two seasons of NPC (first year from the bench, second year starting with Weber at the RWC). Only 20 years old ...
-
@Stargazer well, he's getting to play with the best, fingers crossed he steps up and we have a good one for the furture
-
Some Chiefs team news:
Randle confirmed Lienert-Brown and Mitchell Karpik were available for selection again after both missing the pre-bye match against the Hurricanes with concussion. Lock Naitoa Ah Kuoi, who was badly knocked out in that fixture, won’t be back this weekend, however, but Randle said he was “just with family at the moment and he’s going good, he’s got his cheeky little humour going again”.
-
@Bovidae thank Christ ALB is back. Be keen to see some Nankivell with Tupaea off the bench.

Nankivell is thought of as a 2nd 5, which is why he doesn't tend to play with ALB. We'll see.

still no team announcement, we normally do it on thursday....please someone confirm it is thursday, dont think i cold take it still being wednesday

Walden has snapped and taken the whole team and management hostage.
If he doesn't I will.

Now it doesn't make sense.

@Kiwiwomble The game is on Sunday, so the team announcement will be on Friday. Don't be worried, it's is really Thursday, today.

Maybe Smith plays the full 80

Ioane starts on the bench, fair enough, gregory swaps wing...can mckay only pass one way? assuming Nareki just needs a break
I think i would prefer we start with coltman so we have dixon on at the end for those clutch lineouts
-
Again, no Walden. Wonder where he's going or what he's done to piss someone off.
-
@Yeetyaah yeah, walden into 12 and sio to the wing seems an obvious was to get a bit more muscle out wide

Aaron Mauger is drunk.
-
Mauger also praised the burgeoning midfield partnership of Sio Tomkinson and Rob Thompson, who will again line up together against the Hurricanes’ formidable Ngani Laumape.
“All of those [Highlanders] midfielders are working well together," Mauger said.
“During lockdown that group committed to an identity and how they wanted to influence our game, and what they wanted to look like through this competition.
“Sio and Rob are the lucky guys who got the early start and both have taken their opportunities and performed really well.
“Obviously, Ngane [Punivai} and Tei [Walden] are there as well. It's tough competition, but we just felt continuity with that selection was really key.”
-
What would Mauger know about good centre play?
Running wings out of room was his unique skill. -
No catch-up for the Lienert-Brown brothers.

No real surprises to me based on who is fit and available for selection. I would like to see TTT get meaningful minutes.
-
@Bovidae I'd like Falcon to see some game time.

What's wrong with him? Is he injured?

@Hooroo Nope, playing club rugby for Clive.

So just a bit too poke to make the squad.
-
@Hooroo Just rated no.3 behind Cruden and Trask.
Stevenson is unlucky not to be in the mix.
-
@Bovidae Yes, 3rd, but IMO every player should get some minutes if fit. They could have put him on the bench for this game. Bailyn Sullivan also hasn't had any game time, yet, has he?
-
Nankivell starting with Tupaea off the bench, I'm the Oracle.
-

You don't need to rotate players for a short comp like this though.
I hate seeing rubbish players "get a run" just because there is nothing to play for.
-
@Hooroo The fact that a player is ranked 3rd or lower doesn't mean they're rubbish though.
-
@Stargazer Yeah, Sullivan hasn't played at all. Falcon only played against the Sunwolves, as did Leger. I think Maka was on the bench for an earlier SR game. Naholo hasn't been sighted either.
