@Nepia we did the same, wifes idea which was a pleasant surprise, and I thought they were better. There was a bit of the cool stuff they introduced outweighed a lot of the bad stuff. I actually came out of it thinking Ep 1 was better than Ep 2, the whole awkward love story just ruined the first half
I also saw all the good stuff people talk about in the last jedi and came to the conclusion its a solid film that tries to do some good/different stuff...it just doesn't fit in this epic series of films, the penultimate film is not the time to shoot off in a different direction
It was the opposite for me, all the cool stuff got outweighed by all the crap and at times I had to stop all 3 to laugh at various points.
I genuinely like The Last Jedi (aside from the casino planet diversion) and thought TFA was a good comeback film (unlike TPM). Really, really, really hated the 3rd one though. But, I love Rogue One, Mando and enjoyed Solo so it's mostly all good for me for the new lot.
How could you genuinely like that film? It shat all over Luke and just farked the entire story up. It also crapped all over SW lore. How tf did Yoda summon lightening in the real world and the kamikaze manoevre???? That film was a hot mess. It looked beautiful. Probably the nicest looking SW film but that didn’t balance out the absurd plot and raping of Luke.
the whole premise was so flawed...they can stay just far enough away.....why not jump past and then jump back and come at them from both sides!!! and you can very clearly see the shuttles leaving....but they seem to think they are undetected
and the casino side quest that ultimately was pointless other than forcing a moral of even the good side deal with "bad" people

@MN5 100%
they have huge faults...but at least they more or less work as a trilogy and connect to the originals
now looking back I think one change would "fix" the prequels...make Anakin like 5 years older and a bit of a street urchin (using the force to pick pockets, maybe in the podrace he uses the force to drop a bolder in front of someone), relationship with pademe is less creepy and showing he already had a bit of dark side in him would explain why his fall was so quick
Yep. They could eff off TPM and go straight to number 2. We could then have learned more about his background as the series progressed. Ultimately Lucas was unashamedly targeting kids. Kids loved it while older fans didn’t.
I remember reading about the Machete order for viewing, 4,5,1,2,3,6. So you get the prequels as a flashback after the No, I am your father
And then someone went back and worked out you can cut 1 out all together as everyone we see in subsequent movies gets another introduction or explanation of who they are and things like midaclorians are only mentioned in TPM...never again
BUT!....now after re watching, and realising how bad the middle of Ep2 is...I wouldn't want that to be the start of the prequels
Good point. The start of EP2 made EP1 look brilliant. In defence of EP2 the arena scenes were incredible. The Fett scenes were cool as well.
They should have started with the Separatist thing with Dooku and not that Trade Federation crap. Perhaps Anniken could have been orphaned in the Clone Wars?

It was absolutely ridiculous. Why not send fighters after them? And these things run out of fuel? And don’t start me on the bombers.

@Rancid-Schnitzel bombers were in Ep9 but year...WTF? and that scene started so well with Poe being a smart arse and attacking on his own....and then space has gravity now
edit: no, your right...they are Ep8...even worse!

They already had bombers - Y-Wings. Again you have to wonder if Rian Johnson et al actually had a clue about SW. Nothing made any sense in that film.
-
the more I think about it, the biggest thing I dislike about the sequels is they undo everything that was won in the Originals
empire overthrown? not really they just change their name to the first order
emperor gone? not really, he comes back
Han and Leia live happily ever after? nope, they break up and their son murders millions
The republic is at least restored right? kind off...but it pretty much gets destroyed straight away
Luke starts a new generation of jedi?..tries...off screen...but fails and gives upso...what was the point of the first six films?

but wernt bombers only used on ground targets? places big enough to have gravity, I thought space battles always used projectile weapons

Yep. Anniken’s arc going full circle by killing the emper....oh wait.
So many colours of shit.

They used them in Rogue 1 on that space station thingy. And they were engaged in Ep4 and 6 against the Death Stars.
The idea of bombers in space is ultimately rather ridiculous but those absurd slow moving contraptions in TLA wouldn’t even make sense in our world. It would be like sending a B52 at a fraction of the speed just a few hundred metres above the target. Or farking biplanes with the pilots lobbing the bombs out by hand.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel I can believe the death star would generate gravity but yeah, must be mainly just how slow there were. just painful/boring after poes awesome run
you just made me look up a super cut of the battle of scarif...shit that was a fun scene
-
I don’t dislike the sequels as vehemently as the old mate @Rancid-Schnitzel but shit a brick....the prequels introduced cool characters like Qui Gonn, Darth Maul, young Obi Wan ( hello there ), Mace Windu, Jango Fett, Count Dooku, General Grievous, Padme ( yeah I like her ).....and before @Nepia retorts with Jar Jar I’ll counter with Rose, DJ and purple hair all of who are more irritating than him.....and that’s not even taking into account the fact Poe and especially Finn are kinda shite, not to mention the old alien woman with eyes like arseholes and the bad character arcs that Luke, Han and Leia ( RIP all of them ) took.

seeing reports of Robert Downey Jnr playing Thrawn…..
don't know how I feel about it

Can’t see that happening. Too expensive, not right for the character either.

Mads Mikkleson looks like the Rebels version of Thrawn. But they used him already

Look mate, I feel the same way about people liking the prequels, I'm not sure how people can like them. Anakin's heal turn was like watching WWF in the 80s. At any rate, I don't think TLJ is close to being a perfect film (they stole the jumping story line from Battlestar) but I like it better than the prequels and the final sequel.
Re: Star Wars lore, the prequels set the standard with that - midichlorians etc - so it's not like it's ever set in stone,.
@MN5 Jar Jar is ground zero bad for Star Wars. The Holiday Special did a jig of celebration when it watched Jar Jar in TPM.

I think the Mandalorian is going some way to explaining this by showing just how prevalent the remnants of the Empire are around the galaxy even after RTJ.
