Who will get a first SR contract ?
-
A number of youngsters have emerged this year.
Here are a few who are springing to my mind.Lord (Taranaki) : carries a lot and more strongly than his lean frame would suggest. However, he should add a few kgs to that frame.
Kneepkens (Taranaki) : great finisher and solid all round player. He's really fast.
Parsons (Hawke's Bay) : not very young but he is the type of player who won't let you down. He's big and strong and I don't understand why midget locks have been selected and not him.
Boult (Manawatu) : a hard man to stop. Physical winger.
Finau (Waikato) : more a 6 than a lock IMO. He drives hard. -
AJ Lam
Choat -
Some possibles from Harbour:
Jimmy Roots
Tim Sail
Thomas Aoake
Lewis GjaltemaNic Mayhew might return.
-
Isaac Te Tamaki, Ray Nu'u and Josh Moorby from Southland could get gigs somewhere maybe?
Adrian Choat maybe?
-
Norris perhaps?
Xavier Roe -
Chay Fihaki really impressed last weekend for the Cantabs. Auckland boy I believe.

Agree with @Duluth, Choat should be high on a couple of SR franchises as a good back up openside that could cover 6 in an emergency.
-
how many super spots are available? Usually all but sewn up by now arent they?
Shame Harrison Levien had to have surgery, as I like his game at 9, rapid pass, decent kicking and has a crack at the defence.
Pryor aint gonna be a newb, but in some form at moment and would be a good squaddie for any of the teams.
Outside our guys who have contracts already, cant see any others picking one up.
Someone should defo take Hawkins though!
-
The young Wellington hooker looks like an incredible talent. His name escapes me.
-
@akan004 Tyrone Thompson
-
-
Is anyone on the Fern responsible for this page? It’s bare bones right now, but interesting nonetheless
-
@ACT-Crusader geez, had forgotten completely about Nathan Harris! Will be interesting to see what kind of form he can produce.
-
Josh Lord is already part of the Chiefs system having played in a preseason game and being involved in trainings. It's only a matter of time until he gets a full contract because 2 m+ locks aren't easy to find. With 2 locks having left there are spaces available for 2021. Brown is not a lock so they should be picking specialists.
-
Oh, Sam Caird picked up his first contract, with the Waratahs (spent some time in blues dev side this year )

I am not anti-Canterbury as I am a neutral (French). I had doubts about Newell. Is he already signed ?

Norris perhaps?
Xavier RoeNorris has played a few games with the Chiefs during the SRA.
I forgot Roe. He is one to watch next year. -
Jacob Norris from Tasman looks very good (brother of Ollie from Chiefs?). Most of the top suspects noted above. But, Kaylum Boshier, Jared Adams, Valance Te Whare, Rameka Poihipi, Chad Elton, Charles Alaimalo all show something worth a closer look. Would like to see Regan Ware in super rugby too.
-
Xavier Cowley-Tuioti is 1.94m and 117kg, so the Chiefs will probably pick him up as a lock.

so the Hurricanes will probably pick him up as a lock
FIFY
Surely there is someone shorter out there they could go for. Kaylum Boshier played lock for Taranaki - he's about 190cm.

Picking any NH player in the Chiefs is so 1996. Stevenson should consider himself very lucky.

Misa ?

After a quiet start to the season, Lincoln McClutchie is getting better and better. With our shortage of good 10s in NZ, it would be stupid if he doesn't get signed, this year.
-
@Tim Jared Paige? He looked good the last two weeks.
-
@mikey07 Was with the Blues this year already.
-
@Tim Oh I didn’t realise.

He does have a touch of the Ihaia West about him. Could get himself a SR contract, but I wouldn’t go as far as say stupid if not picked up given he’s only 20 years old.
-
James Tofa the 12 from Manuwatu he runs really hard and tackles aswell.
-
@ACT-Crusader He's 21 and in his 3rd Mitre 10 Cup season. IMO, it's time.

I thought I heard in a game earlier this season the comms say he was only 20?
-
@ACT-Crusader The comms make mistakes, too. He's from April 1999. Fakatava is still 20.
-
@Stargazer possible replacement for TJ at the Canes IF we can find out when his Highlanders contract expires.

I’m only going by what I heard.
Not sure who run these websites, both have him at 20?

@ACT-Crusader The HBRU haven't updated the player profiles sufficiently for 2020. You can find his date of birth on last year's site:

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, depends if the Canes Magpies quota is filled or not, plus there's a danger of him being number 1 and then having to start regularly which would be pretty unpalatable to the Wellingtonians in charge of the Canes.
-
Any half decent 2m+ locks not under contract?
-
@mofitzy_ Josh Lord
-
Will Tucker would be another if he doesn't have a full contract with the Highlanders yet.
-

He’s signed to NZ Sevens for 2 years
