An artificial limit on the number of 3s is stupid.

I'm not a big time basketball fan, so I don't have a strong opinion on whether it's good or bad but I find these questions reolly interesting. If it really is a problem, the obvious solution to me is pushing the line back so they're harder to make. If shooting lots of 3s is a winning strategy, that suggests that a 3 point shot has a higher expected points than a 2p shot. Making it harder to sink a 3 reduces the expected points and will make other scoring methods more attractive.

I'm not seriously advocating limiting 3's folk. I probably wouldn't complain, but I wouldn't be promoting it. I do however think that it is an issue to be addressed in some way - there is no doubt in my mind that if you designed basketball from scratch today, you wouldn't make it so the optimal strategy is to shoot 50 x 3's per game.

I disagree with @mariner4life that the game will evolve to self-correct. The whole reason we are here now is that people started doing some analytics. The math ain't changing. And with players now empowered to take 3's in a way they never were before, they are only getting better and better at them. Practice, weights, license - all points to more and more 3's, not less. Players routinely take them from 1-2 feet beyond the arc now. This isn't going away.

Moving the line back is one option, but you would also need to eliminate the corner 3, as it's a touch tricky to widen every court.

I don't have a solution, I just know that I miss some of the old game - definitely not all of it, the wrestling and the 82-79 games can probably stay in the past, I think people forget how ugly some of the games used to be. But equally I don't want to watch 100 x 3's in a 142-137 game either. Has to be a middle ground somewhere.

I agree. I hardly watch games nowadays, as they don't really worry about defense until the playoffs.

Pushing the line back makes sense, but say bye to the corner 3, which is a shame. However, it would be the simplest way to return the game to it's core. If they calculate the point on the floor where even a machine like Steph only makes 3/10 then we'd probably be able to get the balance right.

Pushing the line back may have an impact, but so many dudes not named Steph, Dame or Trae are shooting from 2-5 feet behind it already. The analytics of possessions and 3s will still dominate.

But if you really wanted to throw it all on its head, make shots inside the paint worth 3 and everything else 2.

LeBron and Steph still doing what they do is phenomenal and the league will be significantly poorer when they are no longer in it.

People should relish getting to watch them while the can, it's rare two such dominant players share this many years

The middle of the west just keeps winning. 2 games separate 3rd and 8th, and no one is making ground

It's always good to see Duke lose. Coach K didn't seem happy.

Hopefully Houston finally gets to cut down the net.

Was Houston's last time in the final the loss to NC State?

They lost the following year (1984) to Georgetown as well.

No way they should have lost, with the dream and Clyde

Duke-Houston game was everything there is to like about college basketball, every play in that last 3 mins or so was massively impactful to the outcome.

Duke got out rebounded by 11 and the difference was those were offensive boards which kept Houston in the game.

The rebounding foul on Flagg was so weak and so costly in the end

NC State were tough defensively. Thurl Bailey and Sidney Lowe could score but it was their stingy D that did the business. Their win over Virginia earlier in the Elite 8 was one of the games of the tournament.

Red hot favourites like Houston were don’t always pan out. Plus who would rewrite what has now become college folklore with the Jimmy V coached NC State upsetting the giants!

Then the next season with Clyde gone to the NBA it left the Dream, Michael Young and Alvin Franklin to take them to the promised land. But Ewing and Coach Thompson not only had the team, but the strategy to slow down this version of Phi Slamma Jamma.

Hoyas were a deep team by college standards and with their freshman Reggie Williams coming off the bench and lighting it up, they just had more firepower that day.

    Go Florida.

And very happy for Paige and UConn. More so that Sth Carolina lost and the fact that Dawn Staley is annoying as hell

I really like UConn. Geno is a great coach, and they play the ultimate brand of team ball.

Their defence was suffocating, they choked the life out of SC, what a comprehensive win
